Talia's POV

I sighed deeply while I looked at my cup of coffee. I was stirring the spoon in it but made no attempt to drink it.

"Terrible war, isn't it?"

I looked up at Heather. I frowned. "What war?"

She shrugged. "Don't know but at least now you're interacting with us."

I sighed deeply.

"What's going on?" Charlotte asked, giving me all her attention.

I kept stirring in my cup of coffee. "The boys went to school today."

"I heard," Charlotte smiled at me. "That must be so exciting."

I looked at her. "What's exciting about that?" I sighed. "They're in school and I can't see them all day."

In the corner of my eye, I could see how Charlotte was smiling at Mary. They probably thought I was exaggerating again.

"They've been at home for much longer due to the virus," Mary tried. "It's good they're off to school. It's normal."

I huffed. "What's normal anyway?"

Heather chuckled.

Charlotte looked from Heather to me. "It's good to be protective over them but one day you'll have to release them into the world. You won't be able to keep them safe all the time."

"Yeah, I have to let them go into this cruel world," I looked down, shaking my head. "They're better off with their mother."

Heather chuckled. "Oh come on," She looked at me. "Hear yourself, you clearly need to release some stress."

I frowned. "I'm fine."

"Na-ah," She sat up. "Why don't you and Leah go out tonight, and have a real date night? I'll watch the boys."

My jaw dropped a bit. "I don't think - "

"That's settled then," She got up. She took her phone. "I'll call Leah to let her know."

"Wait - "

"Oh, and don't worry," She came a bit closer to me. "I'll tell her it's your idea. You know, so you can score points." She smiled and then left.

I let out a deep breath before resting my head on the table.

Third person's POV (Heather told us about this)

"Remind me why you proposed this to Talia." Eva asked as she was following Heather through their house.

Heather was busy putting some toys around for the boys. She didn't tell others but she loved having the boys come over. She always looked forward to their visits.

"Heather?"

Heather sighed and turned around to face Eva. She shrugged. "I wanted to help my friend, I guess."

Eva nodded but she could see there was a different motivation behind her proposal. "How long will they stay here?"

Heather shrugged.

When the doorbell rang, Heather got up and rushed to the front door. She smiled immediately when she saw the boys. "There you are."

"Here we are." Talia said, though it was clear she wasn't that eager to drop them off.

"Thanks for babysitting." Leah smiled at Heather.

Talia looked from her wife to Heather. "So they have to be in bed at 7. You have to read them from - "
