Talia's POV
"Baby," I shouted through the house. "We have to get going!"
I looked at Emil and Jin. They were playing with their toy cars in the living room. I smiled at them. I was so happy they were able to play so well together.
I walked to them. "Let's get you two ready too," I picked up Jin, as he was closest to me, and put on his jacket. "Come here, nounours," I took Emil and put on his jacket too. "There," I smiled at them. "All ready for grandma and grandpa."
I got up and looked at the time. I sighed. "Leah!"
I finally heard the stairs.
"Finally!" I said and looked at her. She was dressed in a warm sweater.
She sniffed. "Baby," She wrapped her arms around herself. "I don't feel too well."
"We've talked about this, baby," I said and walked to her. I took her hands in mine. "You're probably reacting to that vaccine shot you got."
She slowly nodded. "Maybe I should rest a bit more then."
I gave her a look. "You can't miss school, baby."
She sighed but got ready anyway.
"Do you take Jin?" I asked as I picked up Emil.
She nodded and took Jin before following me to the car. We put them in the backseat, securing them, before getting in at the front. We would drive to my parents and drop the boys off before going to the train station to drop Leah off, then I'd go to school.

Since the virus entered our country, things changed rapidly. I remember when they announced we'd have to stay home. Leah and I were at home for 3 months before I'd go back to school for a few days a week. Then summer break, so we'd be home again. Then schools started 'normally' again.
Normal life... It seemed like a distant memory. No longer could I touch my face. I had to wash my hands several times a day. I had to wear a mask. I couldn't go too close to students... The list went on and on of measures that were taken for this horrible virus.
After some time, I got used to it. It became the new normal for us. People just did what they had to, to stop this virus from spreading. Unfortunately, students were regularly sick due to the virus...
At lunch break, my friends and I agreed to meet up In Heather's classroom. We'd rotate our meeting places for the 'air'. We also had to sit far apart from each other before we could even undo our face masks.
"Here we are," Charlotte said as we finally were able to sit down. "Goodbye mask." She said as she put it aside.
Mary chuckled.
"Are we far enough from each other?" I questioned.
They all looked at me. "We're fine, Talia," Heather said. "It's not that important to be exactly a certain distance away."
"It is," I said, raising my voice a bit. As I saw I surprised them with my tone, I sighed. "I have to make sure I'm careful enough," I gulped. "For Leah."
They smiled.
"She's lucky to have you." Mary said.
I smiled a bit. "It's the least I can do for her," I let out a breath. "Especially now."
Charlotte frowned. "Why? What's wrong?"
I shrugged. "She didn't want to go to school this morning."
"What person wants to go to school?" Heather asked, shaking her head.
I rolled my eyes before looking at Charlotte again. "She's feeling a bit sick."
They raised their eyebrows. "Didn't she get her vaccine recently?" Mary tried.
I nodded. "Her third shot."
"Third?!" Heather exclaimed. "Geez, here we are all trying to get through this virus with only two shots."
Charlotte frowned at Heather before looking at me. "She might be sick from that shot."
I slowly nodded.
"How long ago was it?" Heather asked.
I thought about it for a bit. "About a week ago."
Mary shook her head. "Then it can't be that, that's too long for the aftermath of the vaccine."
"But not for the virus itself," Heather said, not realizing just how worried she made me right now. "What if she got the virus?"
I gulped and looked away. "She can't get it."
Charlotte seemed to catch on that I was having a hard time. "Let's not rush to conclusions," She looked at me. "What are her symptoms?"
I gulped. "Sore throat, runny nose, her voice changed, headaches, coughing, and she's very tired."
Heather let out a breath. "Those are all symptoms of the virus," She shook her head. "She could very well be sick!"
Mary and Charlotte glared at Heather before looking at me. "Maybe you should get Leah tested," Mary tried carefully. "Just to be sure."
I looked down.
"It's important to know." Charlotte went on.
"But what if she tests positive?" I asked them.
"Then you'll be home too." Heather said.
I sighed. I looked at her. "Can you just stop?"
She looked at me, gulped, and nodded.
I looked at Charlotte and Mary. "What do I even do if she tests positive? I mean," I thought it over for a bit. "Can I get near her? What about the boys?"
"If she tests positive, you can't go near her," Mary started, gaining a nod from Charlotte and Heather. "She should go in quarantine while you and the boys live in the rest of the house."
I sighed and buried my face in my hands.
"She could just have a cold," Heather tried. "It could be nothing."
I looked back up at her.
"You told us she could get really sick from this virus," Heather went on. "If she's able to go to school, she might not have it."
I slowly nodded. "I hope so."

When Leah got home later that day, I immediately took her to the hospital to get a test done. She didn't want to at first, but luckily joined me. I also decided to do a test, just in case.
All evening we waited impatiently for the results. Since Leah was showing symptoms, they told us we could expect the results soon.
And they didn't lie...
