Leah's POV

"Eva is pregnant."

I let out a breath before looking at T. In the corner of my eyes, I could see how Charlotte and Mary had the same reaction. We all knew clearly why Heather had been worried about telling this news.

T didn't seem to react. I even wondered if she had heard the news. It was almost as if she wasn't really here. She seemed frozen, absent...

Eventually, after a while, Charlotte spoke up: "Congrats, Heather," She smiled at Heather. She was right, we should be happy for Heather. "When's the baby due?"

I looked at Heather and saw she was only thinking about T. It was quite sad how this happy news got overshadowed by her worries for T. "Uhm," She looked at Charlotte. "December or January."

We all nodded.

"Maybe it'll get born on your birthday?" Mary smiled at Heather.

Heather nodded but looked at T, it was clear she just wanted reassurance. She wanted T to be happy too, she wanted to hear something. When T didn't react, she looked at me. I could tell she was pleading for help.

I looked at T. "Isn't it great news, baby?" I tried, my voice softly.

T didn't react.

I gulped. Try again. "Isn't it, baby?" I couldn't help but sound desperate. I wanted T to be happy, I wanted Heather to enjoy this amazing time with Eva. I just wanted things to be alright.

But T didn't react.

I sighed and looked at Heather, and Heather looked devastated. "I'm really happy for you," I smiled at her, trying to make her feel good. "And Eva."

Heather nodded but it was clear she was heartbroken by T's reaction...

Everyone left soon after. It was clear the mood was killed. They quickly downed their drinks and left.

I cleared everything, brought everything to the kitchen, and sighed. I was thinking about how to deal with this now. How do I even begin to get her out of it this time?

I took a moment for myself before going back to T. She was still seated on the couch, not moving, not talking, not reacting.

"Hey," I simply said. I sat down with her. I looked at her and saw she wasn't acknowledging me, so I reached for her hand and held it in mine. I squeezed it a bit. "I know it must be hard for you."

Finally, she reacted. She looked down, and she sniffled.

"It brings it all back, doesn't it?"

She looked at me, tears forming in her eyes. She simply nodded.

I nodded too. I scooted closer to her and opened my arms for her. She immediately embraced me and found comfort in my arms. I held her close, rocking her gently. Every so often, I'd plant a kiss on her head.

We sat there, for a while. I don't believe we talked. We just embraced, in silence.

Third person's POV (Eva told me about this)

Heather got home after the meeting. She felt heartbroken. She was devastated. She didn't have much hope for Talia to be happy for her, but it hurt her nonetheless. She just wanted her best friend to be happy for her. Was it really that much to ask?

She took off her coat and shoes. She heard the tv but decided to go to the kitchen. She sat down on a chair and just sat there. She didn't know what else to do.

When Eva heard Heather come home, she expected her to come to her. But when she heard Heather go to the kitchen, she knew enough.

She sighed and got up, turning off the tv. She walked to the kitchen and looked at Heather.

Heather had her head down, buried in her hands. And Eva knew she simply had to wait. Wait for the right moment to start the conversation.

It took about 10 minutes, and nothing was said. Heather always admired just how long Eva was willing the wait. She didn't get bored or forced a conversation, she really just waited.

Heather looked up and Eva knew immediately. "She just said nothing." She said, she looked away immediately.

Eva walked to Heather and took a seat at the table too. She looked at Heather. "You don't have to look away."

Heather shook her head a bit but kept looking away.

"Heather," Eva reached for Heather's hand. "You don't have to hide from me."

Heather gave in and looked back at Eva, showing her tears. "Why can't she be happy for me?" She asked, sniffling right after.

Eva kept looking at Heather. She nodded. "We knew it would be hard for Talia to hear this," She gently squeezed her wife's hand. "It probably brings all those bad memories back."

Heather kept crying.

"Hey," Eva scooted even closer, their bodies nearly pressed together. "I know it's difficult, but we have to give her time to get used to this."

Heather looked away.

"Stop hiding," Eva gently said. "It's me."

Heather looked back at Eva. It's true, she kept hiding her feelings. She had worked hard on being open and honest with Eva. But her habit of defending herself... It was hard to lose it.

Eva let out a breath. "Give it some time," She brought Heather's hand to her lips, kissing it. "Meanwhile we can focus on our baby."

Heather looked from Eva to Eva's belly. "What if Talia will hate me?" She looked back at Eva. "What if she refuses to talk to me from now on?"

Eva frowned. "Why would she do that?"

Heather looked down. She shrugged.

"Because we're having a baby?"

Heather nodded.

"She's not angry or mad at you," Eva tried. "She's upset because I'm pregnant. It was her biggest wish to get pregnant and carry a child," She looked deeply into her wife's eyes. "It's difficult when you get confronted by that image again."

Heather slowly nodded and let out a breath. She wiped her tears away before looking back at Eva. She smiled a bit. "Thanks."

Eva smiled too. "What would you like to do?"

Heather raised her eyebrows a bit.

Eva noticed Heather was surprised by her question. "You're upset, rightfully so, but I want to try to cheer you up," She smiled a bit. "So what would you like to do?"

Heather smiled and let out a breath of relief. "I don't know what I would do without you," She looked down briefly. "Thanks to you, I'm able to process things much easier," She nodded. "You bring me peace," She smiled. "And that's the most anyone ever could do."

Eva smiled too. "You're welcome."

Heather leaned in, kissing her lovely wife.

"So," Eva said, after the kiss. "What would you like to do?"

Heather thought about it for a bit before smiling. "I'd like to talk some more."

Eva tilted her head a bit but nodded. She got up and heated up some water. She poured it into two cups before sitting back down. "Ok," She said and handed Heather a nice cup of tea. "I'm ready."
