Leah's POV
Things had been going well for us. After my teaching practice, I had 2 weeks of regular classes at college. I had almost forgotten about other things as school dominated my day-to-day life. However, when I woke up one day, I noticed T's birthday was right around the corner...
I had been trying to focus in classes all morning but failed miserably. I had taken a notebook and scribbled some ideas regarding a present for her. Somehow nothing was good enough for her, she deserved more than the best. What could I give someone who deserves nothing but perfection?
After school, I went back home. During the train ride, I was looking outside. I passively watched the scenery go by while my mind was going over every possible gift. I saw advertisements here and there, but nothing stood out to me.
As I arrived at the train station, I slowly walked to the car. I sighed as I entered it. I didn't immediately start it, I was thinking.
I took my phone and called Charlotte. "Hey."
"Hey Leah, is everything alright?"
I smiled. "Yeah," I sighed. "I realized T's birthday is this Friday..."
"Ouch..."
"I know," I looked down. "And I can't come up with a gift. Nothing's good enough for her."
"Aww," She chuckled a bit. "I find it so cute to hear how you two talk about each other," She sighed. "I wish I find someone like that for me."
I smiled a bit. "You will," I gulped. "So do you have an idea?" I felt bad for shoving what she had said, about wanting love, away but I really needed ideas for a gift for T.
"How about beauty things?"
I shrugged. "I'm really not good with that."
"I could help you."
I smiled. "Really?"
"Sure," She seemed to be taking something. "When are you free this week?"
I took my agenda and looked at it. "Only tomorrow afternoon."
"Oh..." She sighed. "I'm sorry, I've got a meeting with a parent..."
I sighed deeply. Of course, it wouldn't be that easy... "It's ok, I understand."
"Why don't you ask your friends?"
I shook my head. "They don't know T that well," I looked outside, noticing it started to rain. "I need someone who knows T well."
"In that case, there's only one person left..."
I sighed deeply.

The next day, I had finished school around lunchtime. I made my way to the spot we had agreed to meet. While I was walking there, I reminded myself to keep calm. I reminded myself to do this for T, to undergo this torture for her.
As I arrived at the store, I saw some women walk outside. They were all dressed up, as if they'd walk on the red carpet later on. I watched them while being confused. I really didn't understand this part of 'being pretty'. Honestly, I don't get this part at all. Why would we need to be dressed up and paint our faces like that?
"They went a bit overboard."
I turned around and sighed. "Heather."
She nodded at me, a way of greeting me. She then looked at the women, I had been watching earlier, again. "We won't be getting that for Talia, she needs more subtle things."
I looked at her and nodded, even though I had no clue what she was talking about.
"Come on." She started walking towards the store.
As we were going through the store, I made sure to stay near Heather. I was lost in this world. At one point, we spotted nearly 50 different types of lipstick. Why? We only have 1 set of lips. Why so many different types?
"Here," She stopped at the aisle with nail polish. "What do you think about this color?"
I looked at it, then at her, and shrugged. "Would she like that?"
Heather sighed before looking around. "I don't know if she'd prefer nail polish or lipstick," She then frowned. "She uses both frequently."
I frowned then. "She also uses this pallet for her cheeks."
Heather looked at me. "Pallet for her cheeks?"
I nodded.
A smile appeared on her face, I could tell she was trying her best not to laugh at me. And I knew I had said something stupid. "That's called rouge, Leah."
I nodded slowly. "Right," As if I'd remember that... "That's what I meant."
She shook her head before looking at the lipstick again. "Maybe we should go for lipstick."
As Heather was looking at the options, I decided to walk around some more. I knew where to find Heather, in case I'd need her...
I arrived at an aisle in which I knew the products. I looked around and saw a gift set for spa treatment. I looked at it and nodded.
"Hey Heather," I said as I arrived back at where I had left her. "I found something," I smiled at the gift for T but noticed Heather was still looking at lipstick and nail polish. "Heather?"
She looked at me. "What?"
I showed her the spa set I had found. "What do you think?"
She put the nail polish and lipstick down and took the set from me. She looked at the set of products in the package. "That could be nice," She looked at me. "It's a nice gift."
I smiled.
"But expensive..." She motioned to the price tag.
I gulped. "I'll figure something out."
"Mhm..." She handed it back to me.
I sighed as I walked back to the aisle where I had found that set. I guess I'd have to find something else...
After some time, Heather seemingly had decided on a gift as she had walked to the checkout. I walked to her and saw the spa set.
"What are you doing?"
She typed in her code to pay. "Helping you out."
I raised my eyebrows as I saw the spa set being nicely wrapped as a gift. The girl at the checkout gave the wrapped box to Heather and told her to have a nice day. We then exited the store.
"Here you go," She said as she gave me the wrapped box. "Now you've got your gift."
I looked from the box to Heather. "Why did you do that?"
She shrugged. "I guess I wanted to help you out."
"Why?"
She looked at me. "Would you have rather had I didn't?"
"No," I showed her a small smile. "Thank you."
She nodded before looking around. "And now I want something to drink." She walked to a nearby coffee shop. I could've left but decided to join her, maybe that's the least I could do...
