Leah's POV

I knocked on the front door, waiting for my mom to answer. While I was waiting, I looked to my right, at T and Emil. Emil seemed unsure, almost nervous. I couldn't blame him, he was once again being pulled to a place he didn't know.

I knelt to be at his eye level. I immediately showed him a small smile. "Hey Emil," I said, gaining his attention. "I know this may seem scary but we're going to see a really nice lady."

"We awe?"

I nodded. "You're going to meet my mom," I smiled. "She's your grandmother now."

Immediately, he smiled. I wondered if he was smiling because I was smiling or because he was genuinely excited to have a grandmother now.

"Just a heads up, she might try to give you some candy."

His face lit up even more. "Yay!"

I got back up and saw T was chuckling. "Good one." She whispered.

The door finally opened. "Leah, Talia," Mom breathed out, she seemed tired somehow, as if she had been on the run. "Now's not really a good..." Then she stopped. "Who's that?"

I leaned down to pick Emil up, holding him near me. "Mom, we want you to meet someone."

Mom looked from T to me before going aside so we could enter the house. "I'm sorry, if I had known you two would visit I would've cleaned up a bit."

"You're alright, mom," T said, sitting down on the couch. "It's really fine."

Mom smiled and sat down too. Her eyes instantly went to me and Emil. I could tell she had so many things she wanted to say or ask, but she held back. I wonder why. Was she afraid to hurt us? To hurt Emil?

"So," I started. "Mom, we wanted you to meet someone," I said, bouncing Emil a bit. He giggled in return. "This is Emil."

Mom nodded but I could tell she was still confused.

"He's our son." I simply said. I didn't feel like explaining the whole process because, as T said before, mom was aware we were trying to get a child.

It seemed that those words finally took away the worries. She instantly smiled. "Your son?" She laughed a bit. "So, my grandson?"

I nodded before putting Emil down on the ground, so he could stand. I nudged him towards my mom, motioning him it was safe to go.

Emil slowly walked to my mom, I could tell he wasn't sure about this. When he was near my mom, she immediately picked him up and put him on her lap. "Hi there," She said, with the biggest smile I've ever seen. She was really happy. "So you're Emil?"

Emil nodded, he seemed shy still.

"And what do you like to eat?"

He seemed intrigued by this question. "Candy!" He said excitedly.

I chuckled as he clearly remembered what I said at the door.

"Well, well," Mom smiled at me. "I happen to have a box filled with candy," She looked back at Emil. "Shall we get you some?"

"Yay!" Emil clapped his hands excitedly.

Mom picked Emil up and walked them to the kitchen.

I looked at T and smiled. "That went well," T said, to which I nodded. "I hope my parents will react just as well."

"They will," I reached for her hand and squeezed it a bit. "He is our son, how could they not?"

She looked down then. "You know how they can be," She sighed deeply. "They're not as accepting as yours," She looked at me again. "Mom can be... a lot..."

I chuckled. "No way, I've never noticed that..."

She nudged me. "Not funny!"

I chuckled more.

Mom and Emil came back. "He has chosen his candy," She said and handed Emil back to T. She went to sit down and smiled at us. "I'm really happy for you two. You two deserve happiness, you two deserve this," She scooted closer and reached for our hands. "I hope this will give you two the happiness and love you two deserve."

T smiled at my mom, I could tell those words meant a lot to her. "Thank you, mom."

Mom smiled at her, then at me. "Will you tell your dad?"

I immediately shrugged. "I guess I'll see."

She nodded and dropped the subject immediately. She then looked back at T. "Do your parents know?"

"Not yet," She took a deep breath. "If I'm being honest, I'm a bit worried about it. I don't know how they'll react," She looked at Emil then. He was eating his candies like he hadn't eaten in forever. "I don't want him to get upset over what they might say to him."

Mom slowly nodded. "Make sure you explain the situation to them. They'll understand," She squeezed our hands a bit. "Parents do."

I slowly nodded before looking at T. I showed her a small smile, which she returned.

On our way over to T's parents, I could tell she got more anxious the closer we got. It seemed her worries got bigger. I couldn't blame her, I worried too. But I wouldn't tell her that.

I parked the car at T's parents' house. I then looked at her. "It'll work out just fine, baby," I smiled a bit. "It has to."

She slowly nodded but I could tell she wasn't believing me. She turned around, looking at the backseat, at Emil. He had the biggest smile on his face, it seemed to brighten the mood immediately. "Are you ready to meet your other grandparents?"

Emil looked around, seemingly looking for them.

"Let's go," I said to T and got out of the car. "Do you take him?" I asked, referring to Emil.

She nodded and went for him.

We walked to the front door, Emil in T's arms. I rang the doorbell and looked at T. She was dying here. She was visibly nervous. I wondered if Emil could feel those nerves too.

The door opened, revealing T's dad. Thankfully, he was the gentle one. He smiled at us. "Hey, come in."

We entered and looked around. "Dad," T started. "Is mom here too?"

"I'm in the living room." T's mom said, clearly having heard us.

T gulped.

I wrapped my arms around her and guided her toward her mom. We arrived and saw her mom watching tv. When we entered, her eyes immediately shot at us. She had a stern look, even though she wasn't that bad herself.

T's dad went to sit down next to her mom. They both looked at us, clearly waiting to hear the explanation of the child that was with us.

T gulped again. "Mom, dad," She paused. "This is Emil, our son."

I looked at them when she said that and noticed just how much their faces changed.

T's dad smiled. "What's his name?"

T looked at Emil, giving him the opportunity to talk. "Emil." He said shyly.

T's dad nodded.

We looked at T's mom, waiting for her reaction. "How is he your son?"

I gulped, fearing this question. "We adopted him," I replied. "It was a long process but we're happy that he's ours now."

T's mom looked at T. "Talia," She said, gaining T's attention. "How are you feeling?"

T looked down briefly. "I was at a very low point, mom," She gulped. "I wanted to be a mom so badly," She looked at Emil, gaining a smile from him. She smiled in return. "And here he finally is," She looked back at her mom. "I'm so happy, mom."

Finally, T's mom smiled too. "Then I'm happy too."

I could see how much those words meant to T. She was relieved.

"Emil," T's mom said, nodding. "What a beautiful name."

Emil started laughing, he seemed to feel at ease too now.

I looked at T and smiled. This was a good start of our new lives together.
