Leah's POV
I know it sounds strange but I followed Heather's advice. I sent Cam a text message, telling her to meet me in a local snack bar. There I was waiting for her, hoping she'd come, hoping she'd even see my message...
I looked outside the window, looking in every direction for her. I wondered if this would work. To me, it seemed like such a direct approach. I'd never force a meeting on someone, I'd ask them if they were available.
While I was waiting, I went over my conversation with Heather. I wondered if I had misunderstood Cam these past few days. What if she just wanted to spend some time with me and I sat there with T? I didn't listen to her... I'm a horrible friend.
After 5 minutes, Cam entered the snack bar. She looked around briefly before spotting me. She then walked to me and sat down at the table I had taken for us. "Hey." She said as she sat down.
"Hey," I smiled at her. "Thanks for meeting up with me."
She nodded and looked away. She seemed down, I can't believe I didn't notice this sooner...
I scooted closer to her. "I'm sorry," I said, gaining her attention. "About last night," I sighed. "T can be pushy." I showed her a small smile.
Cam nodded slowly.
"I thought we could spend some time together," I smiled more. "Just the two of us."
Cam's face lit up then. "Just us?"
"Just us." I repeated.

The rest of the afternoon, Cam and I spent together. We first had a snack at the snack bar. We talked about what was going on in each other's lives. It was good we talked like this, we needed this. I learned that if you forget about communication, you neglect the relationship.
After we were done eating and talking, we went to the park. There wasn't much to see there but we enjoyed walking around there. It was the perfect place to relax and have some quality time.
We were resting in the grass, enjoying the sun. Neither of us had said anything for a while now. It was great...
"I think I like someone."
I opened my eyes when I heard that. I sat up and looked at Cam, I saw she was already looking at me. "What?"
She gulped. She sat up so we could talk properly. "I think I like someone." She repeated.
I don't know what my face looked like when I heard that. All I know is that I was conflicted about the news. I was so happy for Cam that she finally found someone because she's so amazing. But, at the same time, I was worried and maybe even jealous. She was my best friend, we were so close. What if a new girlfriend would come in between us?
Cam looked down, seemingly noticing I wasn't that thrilled about it. "Never mind." She mumbled.
I looked at her. It took me a while to process what exactly I was going to say to her. Eventually, I just settled with: "I'm happy for you."
She looked back up at me.
"I am," I said, as if I felt the need to make that clear to her. "You're such an amazing person, Cam," I smiled at her. "Anyone would be lucky to be with you."
She looked down.
I frowned. "You don't seem happy about it?"
She shrugged. "I hinted at it," She looked at me. "I tried finding out what she thought of me."
I slowly nodded.
She sighed. "She's straight..."
My smile disappeared completely then. I couldn't imagine hearing that come out of the mouth of the person you like. The absolute breaker of hope. I mean, hearing that, there's no point trying... "I'm sorry."
She sighed. "It's alright," She looked at me. "It wasn't meant to be."
I looked at her. "Fate is such a weird thing," I paused. "I never imagined getting married at 18, or getting married to my teacher..." I paused yet again. "Somehow T and I found each other," I showed her a small smile. "You'll find your person too, I'm sure of that."
Cam smiled a bit. "I keep hoping for that."
"You will," I nudged her gently. "And if not, you can always chase them." I joked.
Cam chuckled.

That evening, I had brought Cam home. She expressed again how thankful she was for today. I told her how happy I was she met up with me.
When I left Cam's place, I had the biggest smile on my face. I felt happy, I felt good. I had done something good. My friend needed me and I was there for her.
Before I'd go home, I made another stop. I walked to the front door and rang the doorbell, then I waited.
The door opened and Heather was there. "Leah?" She clearly was surprised to see me at this time.
"I'm sorry to bother you at this time," I said. "I just wanted to thank you for your advice."
She frowned a bit. She clearly didn't remember...
"With Cam..." I said, hoping to trigger her mind. "You told me to meet up with her, remember?"
"Right, yes," She nodded. "How did it go?"
I sighed happily. "It went well," I smiled. "You were right, she needed some quality time with me," I said, gaining a nod from her. "It's odd how something as trivial as talking can lighten up a person's day."
"People like to talk but people love to be heard," She said. "Anyone who doesn't feel heard, feels lonely," She sighed. "And no one wants to feel lonely."
I nodded slowly. "I wasn't a good friend for her lately..."
Heather looked at me. "That's the past," She said, gaining my attention. "Maybe you didn't catch on faster but you eventually did. You made time to see her, you made time to listen to her," She showed me a small smile. "That's a good friend to me."
I smiled a bit. "I never thought I'd be thanking you for anything," I nodded. "But I really have to thank you for today. What you said, meant a lot to me."
"You're welcome."
I nodded. "I'm going to get back home before T gets worried..."
"Yeah, we wouldn't want that..." She chuckled.
"No, indeed," I walked backward. "I'll see you later." I waved at her.
"Yep, bye." She waved at me before closing the door.
