Leah's POV
"Yeah," I nodded, looking down. "It's all good."
Eva slowly nodded and wrote it down in her little notebook about me. "And how's home life?"
"All good," I looked away, at nothing in particular. "It's all good."
Eva sighed and closed the notebook. "Leah," She undid her glasses, which made her look serious. "I can see something's bothering you, something's troubling you," She paused, allowing me to look at her. "But you don't want to talk about it and I'll respect that. I just don't understand why you didn't cancel our appointment in that case."
I gulped and looked down.
"Leah," She said, softer this time. "What's going on?"
I sighed. "Things are great, they're all good," I looked at her. "But sometimes I wonder whether I made the right choices in my life."
Instead of acting surprised or shocked, she simply nodded. She wasn't judging anything I was saying, and I loved it.
"When I was in college, the people in my class were going to parties and dating whoever," I looked down. "It's not that I'm into those things but it did make me wonder how my life is so different compared to theirs."
"Is it bad that it's different?"
I looked back up at her. I thought about it for a bit. "I don't know," I gulped. "I don't know whether I made the right choices."
"Like?"
I shrugged. "Like getting married at 18," I sighed deeply. "I was so young and yet I settled already for the rest of my life."
"Age is just a number, Leah," She said. "It all depends on what you think is right."
I shrugged again. "For many people, age is more than just a number."
"You're talking about your stories again, aren't you?" Heather asked as she barged into the living room.
I looked down and immediately shut up. I wrapped my arms around myself, as if protecting myself. I hated the fact Heather had heard something that was on my mind.
And Eva seemed to catch on to that. She turned around to look at Heather. "You know you can't come here when I'm doing therapy."
Heather simply shrugged. "I'm sorry I wanted a drink."
Eva sighed.
"You could've done this at the center too." Heather replied.
"No, we couldn't," She turned back to face me. "It's still closed because of the virus."
"Then why is she here?" Heather asked, pointing at me.
"She's my patient," Eva responded, not even looking at Heather. "And a dear friend of ours," She then looked at Heather. "A friend that needs someone to listen to her."
Suddenly, Heather stepped forward, to me. I didn't know what to expect from her, she could sometimes act so impulsive.
When she was near me, her face softened."Heather," Eva said, pulling at Heather to just leave. "We're in the middle of therapy."
Heather didn't listen. Instead, she went to sit down on the couch next to me. "When you and Talia started dating, I too feared that a young girl might take advantage of my best friend. I guess I too thought of age as more than just a number."
I looked at her.
"I realize now I must apologize for how closed-minded I was," She suddenly said, making me raise my eyebrows. "You were very young but so mature at the same time."
I gulped and kept looking at her. I wanted her to continue, as her words often made the most sense to me.
"You may be wondering whether you made the right choices so far, but who ever knows?" She shrugged. "I've done nothing but poor life choices before, and yet I was blessed with Eva."
Eva smiled when she heard that, but she now too just listened to what Heather had to say.
"The point isn't whether you made the right choices in the past," She put her hand on mine, showing me a small smile. "But rather what you do from here on out."
I gulped and nodded.
"I've been terrible to you in the past, and I can't apologize for it," She let out a breath. "I think most of my actions are just unforgivable - "
"Don't say that," Eva interrupted. "Anyone can be forgiven."
Heather chuckled. "This is truly my naive and beautiful angel," She said, clearly referring to Eva. "Thanks to her I've been more open to others and the world, I've been trying to look at everything from different points of view," She let out a breath. "It's been a true blessing."
I smiled a bit. "I'm happy for you."
Heather smiled too, a real and genuine smile. "I don't know what it was I had against you before," She shrugged. "Maybe it was simply my profession, I saw many immature teenagers screw up their lives. I guess I didn't want a young girl ruining my best friend's life," She let out a breath. "But right now, I'd kick my past self and make them support you. Because you are exactly what Talia needs."
Those words meant the world to me, more than Heather will ever know. She really did change since she met Eva. And I was so happy about it.
"And Talia is exactly what Leah needs," Eva added. She smiled at me. "And judging by your reaction, you've made the right choices in the past."
"Exactly," Heather said, slapping my thigh before getting up. "So is therapy over now?"
I chuckled at her bluntness.
"No, our session ends in 12 minutes." Eva informed her.
Heather nodded. "How about we end it now and go do something fun instead?"
I chuckled more.
Eva wasn't as pleased. "Heather," She said. "Why don't you just wait 12 minutes for us to finish?"
Heather frowned. "I thought we all talked about it and we're good to go for another week?"
I chuckled more.
Eva sighed. "I'll see you in a few minutes."
Heather nodded. "In 9 minutes now," She smiled. Eva took a pillow and threw it at Heather, missing her. "Missed me!" Heather said, sticking out her tongue before disappearing.
Eva sighed again before looking at me. "That was that," She sat up again, regaining her professional posture. "So what else has been on your mind?"
I thought about it for a bit.
"Anything about the future?"
I shrugged a bit. "I don't know, I'm not - "
"7 minutes!" Heather shouted.
I laughed while Eva breathed out. "Heather!"
