Talia's POV

I had prepared breakfast for us, I put it all on the table and waited for Leah to come downstairs. I knew she needed a bit of time in the morning. I wasn't blaming her though, she was visibly getting worse.

"Hey," I smiled at her as she arrived in the kitchen. She didn't look well, it seemed she had cried. "Is it still bad?"

She wiped her tears away. "I'm done with this," She then slowly took a seat but got up immediately afterward. "I can't do this anymore," She started crying again. "It hurts," She sniffled. "It hurts to sit, it hurts to eat, it hurts to do normal things."

I got up and walked to her. "I'll call the doctor," I caressed her face, wiping the tears away in the process. "Ok?"

She nodded.

"Here," I gave her her plate. "Try to eat something."

She nodded.

While she was eating, while standing, I took my phone and called our doctor. I explained to him what the problem was and made an appointment that same day for her. I put my phone away and looked at her. "We'll see him this afternoon."

She nodded again.

"How about we watch a movie together?" I smiled at her. "You're able to lay down, right?"

She nodded slowly.

"Come," I took her to the couch. I laid down and let her lay down on me. "Is this good?"

"Perfect."

The doctor had immediately sent us to the hospital. He had an idea what the issue was but it would require more research. A specialist would have to see us before they could diagnose Leah.

While we were waiting for the specialist to let us in, Leah was pacing around the waiting room. I saw people look at her, probably wondering why she wouldn't just sit down. I made sure to eye them back.

I looked at Leah. "Are you nervous?"

She looked at me. "I don't know what to expect," She let out a deep breath. "I know it's going to hurt."

I took her hand in mine. "I'll be right there for you."

She smiled a bit. "Thanks."

After 20 minutes, it was our turn. We entered the office. The specialist first asked a few routine questions, about her issue. When he noticed she wasn't sitting down, he seemed to understand the severeness of the case.

Before he would take a look, he asked us if it was alright that 3 nurses in training would follow the procedure. We agreed.

But, while he was taking a look, Leah was crying and screaming as I had never heard her do. She was in terrible pain while the specialist didn't seem bothered. He was explaining to the trainees how the procedure worked and stuff like that. At that moment, I could've hit him for making Leah suffer so long. But we did agree...

I was looking at Leah, holding her hand tightly in mine. She was squeezing my hand. I could see, hear and feel she was really in pain. It seemed even I didn't know the severeness of her problem.

After the procedure, he sat down again, as did I. Leah didn't sit down, she was pacing around again.

"So," He said, looking at his computer. He was typing something before looking at us again. "This indeed seems like the issue your doctor has said."

I frowned. "W-what does this mean? Can it be treated?"

He nodded. "She will need to get IVs to treat the infection she has," He then looked at Leah. "These IVs will take place every 2 months."

"Will that stop the pain?" She asked.

He nodded.

"What caused this issue?" I couldn't help but feel confused about this. I was concerned. I wasn't sure what this issue was going to do for our future. Was it going to affect her in any way? I felt like he wasn't saying much, and that bothered me.

The specialist looked at me. "This is an auto-immunity disease. Normally our body defense system protects our body. In Leah's case, her body defense system attacks parts of her body. Why this is happening, is unknown."

I sighed deeply and saw Leah was visibly afraid. "Will the IV stop this?"

"Yes."

I nodded but couldn't help to feel worried. "So there's something wrong with her blood?"

"In a way," He then looked at Leah. "You can never donate blood, for example."

She nodded but was visibly overwhelmed with all the information she was getting.

"If she were to get pregnant," I said, gaining Leah's attention immediately. "Would it harm the child? I mean," I paused, looking for ways to make myself more clear. "Will her blood or her body defense system attack the child?"

"She should have no problems when she wants to get pregnant," He then looked at Leah. "You should, however, keep in touch with your doctor when you want to get pregnant."

She nodded but didn't really seem to get it all just yet.

"So when do we start this?"

The specialist looked at me. "We can make an appointment for her to start the IVs soon," He then looked at his computer. He seemed to be going through something. "How about next week?"

"What?" Leah exclaimed.

I looked from Leah to the specialist. "As soon as possible, please, my wife is in pain."

He nodded. "The closest appointment I can give you is in 3 days."

I looked at Leah and saw she was upset, however, she did nod. I looked at the specialist again. "We'll take it."

We arrived home. Leah immediately went to lay down on the couch, I took a seat on the coffee table to look at her. "What are you thinking?"

She shrugged. "It's all so much..." She sighed. "It's a life-long disease..."

I caressed her face gently. "We'll face it together," I showed her a small smile. "You won't die of it, remember that."

"Thankfully," She turned on her back. "I can't wait for the pain to be over."

I smiled. "Why don't we order a pizza for tonight?"

She looked at me. "For real?"

I nodded. "Any choice you want," I then opened the website to order. "You choose." I handed her my phone.

She went through all the pizzas and was giving her opinion on her choices. She was obviously asking for my opinion but, at that moment, I really didn't pay attention to what she was saying. I was looking at her, smiling at her. I was happy to see she could put this horrible day behind her.

Hey everyone

So this disease I have isn't specified for a reason. I do want to share that I suffered and that I have a disease but I don't want to get into too much detail. I hope you can all understand that.

Thank you,

Leah
