Talia's POV

I gulped before knocking on the front door. I breathed deeply in and out, trying to calm down my heartbeat. I was so nervous! And I shouldn't be... I think...

The door opened, revealing Heather. She was smiling at me. "Hey," She moved aside so I could enter. "Come on in."

I entered the house and got rid of my jacket before looking around. "It's cozy here," I smiled. "Especially with the little elves everywhere."

Heather looked around. "Yeah," She smiled. "Eva liked those, so we put them everywhere," She guided me towards the living room. When I entered, I saw how their living room was fully decorated for Christmas. "It's different," She commented. "With a kid." She explained herself.

I looked at her. "Emil and Jin love decorating the house too," I chuckled at the memory of decorating the Christmas tree. "And Leah loves the atmosphere of it all."

Heather smiled and looked at the couch. She went to sit down, probably expecting me to follow. But I wasn't. I was still looking around. They had decorations put everywhere: in their beautiful tree, on the walls, in cabinets...

"It's really beautiful," I said, observing it all. Then I stopped as my eyes landed on a picture.

I heard her getting up and walking to me. She wrapped her arm around me. "I always put the things that are most important to me on display, especially around this time of year."

I looked at the picture, I felt myself getting emotional.

"I know things changed in our lives, for better or for worse," She leaned her head on mine, seeking comfort and support. "But between us, nothing changed, not to me," She looked at me. "You're still one of the most important persons in my life."

I looked at her. "So are you."

She smiled and looked at the picture. "Remember when we took that?"

I looked back at the picture as well, nodding. "One day after school, in your bedroom," I looked at her. "The day of the dance."

She chuckled. "That stupid dance," She shook her head. "I never got the appeal for those."

I chuckled. "If you've got no one to go with then it sucks."

She looked at me. "I had you, didn't I?"

I smiled. "True," I looked back at that picture. Suddenly it dawned on me how much my life had changed since that picture. I was married, I had kids, I had a bigger circle of friends, my family extended... I lost the ability to have children, I lost a piece of my feminity...

"Come," Heather said, pulling me out of those thoughts. We went to sit down on the couch. She smiled at me but looked at me for a bit and her smile changed. "Don't do that."

I looked down. "What?"

"That," She said sternly. "Don't go looking for reasons to be upset," She scooted closer to me. "Be grateful and happy for the things you do have."

I nodded.

"What are the plans for Christmas?"

I looked at her. "Family dinner."

She nodded. "Leah's or yours?"

I gave her a look, which she returned. I rolled my eyes. "Ours combined, actually."

"Both of your parents together," She shook her head. "Poor boys."

I looked away. "It's not that bad."

"Mhm..."

As I was looking around, I saw the presence of little things of their baby girl. A toy, a tiny bear, furniture... "What about you?" I looked back at her. "It's your daughter's first Christmas."

"Nothing special," She smiled, a certain proudness in her facial expression. "We're going to keep it small, just the three of us," She looked down, though with a smile on her face. She was playing around with her wedding ring. "What is it about these days that makes us rethink our life?"

I looked at her for a bit, wondering what she was getting at.

"I remember how jealous I was of Leah and you, of what you two had built," She sighed. "I still see myself sitting in your kitchen, saying how love isn't made for me," She looked back up at me. "And look at me now," She nodded. "I'm so damn grateful."

I smiled. "Good."

She smiled until the cries of her daughter were heard through the babyphone. She looked at me briefly before getting up. "I'll be right back."

As she had left, I looked around again. I decided to walk around more.

"Look who's here."

I turned around and suddenly was lost gasping for air. I gulped as my throat dried up completely.

Heather walked to me, Hannah in her arms. She looked so happy, so proud to show her daughter off. She looked at me. "Look Hannah, this is auntie Talia."

The little girl was clueless as to what was happening. She looked around everywhere while I was stuck looking at her, mesmerized by her being. She was beautiful.

Heather looked at me, I could tell she wasn't sure what to say or do. She probably expected me to say something. So, when nothing came, she cleared her throat and stepped back. "Let's get back to bed." She walked away.

I opened my mouth, I wanted to tell her to stay, to let me see the baby more, to let me... hold her. But nothing came out. So she just walked away, thinking I didn't care...

Third person's POV

"She just stood there and looked at Hannah," Heather crossed her arms. "I can't believe it!"

Eva sat down at the kitchen table with her wife. She saw how Heather was clearly disappointed in the encounter. "Let's not forget it was a huge step for - "

"No," But Heather wasn't having this. "I've been nothing but patient with her, I've accepted her ignorance towards our daughter, I've taken the hit of her denying being the godmother of our daughter, I've tried to be a good friend," She shook her head. "And what do I get in return?" She gulped. "She still thinks of our daughter as nothing!"

Eva sat there, listening to her wife go on and on about the encounter between Talia and Hannah. She was pretty certain that something else had happened, but she knew better than to get in between Heather's rant.

"I don't want to see her anymore." Heather concluded.

Eva looked up. "Don't say that."

Heather shook her head. "If you're against my daughter, you're against me."

Eva nodded. "I agree," She scooted closer. "But I don't think you understand the whole situation."

Heather raised her eyebrows. "I'm not stupid."

"I didn't say you were," She scooted even closer. "I think meeting Hannah, out of the blue, was a huge step for Talia. Perhaps you even surprised her to the point that she didn't know what to say. Or she was overwhelmed."

Heather's facial expression changed. "Do you think so?" And instantly, the tone in her voice softened as well.

Eva nodded. "I'm pretty sure."

Heather groaned and hid her face in her hands. "I'm stupid."

"You said it, not me." Eva joked.

Heather looked up, a smile on her face. She nudged Eva, who chuckled. "I have to call her," She felt her pockets. "Where's my phone?"

Eva took her phone out of her pocket. "Here," She handed it to Heather. "Use mine."

Heather nodded and called Talia.
