Leah's POV
"Are you sure you're going to be alright?" T asked me for the billionth time this morning.
I smiled. "Yes." I replied for the billionth time.
She reached for my hands, holding them in hers. "I won't stay after, I'll get home immediately."
I nodded. "I'll be alright, so don't worry."
She looked at me, I could tell she was worried. She hated days like these. She had to go to work, a full day of learning new things, but I could stay home. She was always worried when her family would be home without her. No matter how many times I tried to convince her we'd be alright.
She looked behind her, to the tv, to the kids. Jin and Emil had woken up early too, just to have breakfast with T. But after breakfast, they went to the tv.
"They'll be alright too, baby."
She looked back at me. She nodded but the rather sad expression remained on her face.
"Baby," I squeezed her hands gently. "Do you want us to drop you off at school?"
She smiled. "Even though that'd be the cutest thing ever," She breathed out. "I think that would make it even harder for me to say goodbye."
I nodded.
She breathed out again. "I have to go," She leaned in closer, kissing my lips. "I love you."
"I love you too."
She nodded before opening the front door. She looked at me, at the kids, once more before leaving.
I couldn't help but look through the window. I watched her get in her car before driving away. I let out a deep breath before walking to the kids. I sat down on the couch and watched them.
They were so invested in their cartoons, they didn't even notice that T had left and that I was here, behind them.
"So what are we going to do today?" I asked.
They were still obsessing over their cartoons, laughing alongside them. I wondered if they had even heard me...
"Hello?" I tried again.
This time though, I got their attention. "Mama." They said simultaneously.
I smiled at them. "What do you guys want to do today?"
I could tell how their heads slowly went back to the tv.
"Besides watching cartoons." I added.
They giggled before turning their bodies towards me, giving me their full attention.
"I want play," Emil said excitedly. "Outside."
I nodded before looking at Jin. "How about you, Jinnie?"
As Jin was thinking about his answer, Emil and I didn't interrupt him. We had both learned that Jin needed time to form his thoughts. I was always so happy that Emil gave Jin this time.
Eventually, Jin looked at me. "I want puzzle."
Emil looked confused. "Puzzle?" He looked at me. "Can we do that outside?"
I chuckled a bit. "Of course, tiger," I then looked at Jin. "I've got a puzzle for you, Jinnie," I leaned in closer to him. "One with a thousand pieces."
Immediately, his eyes went wide. I could see just how excited he got. He started clapping his hands. "I want puzzle!"
I smiled. "Ok," I took the tv remote and turned off the tv. "Let go play."
_____________________________
Emil was a wild boy. Whatever he could find in the garden, he'd play with. We had made sure there was enough to play with. Our friends often would tell us this is a typical garden for a family: meaning nothing but children's toys...
It was true. We had several balls, a goal, a sandpit, a swing... If I was a kid again, I'd be playing here for hours. I guess that's why Emil loved it here so much.
Jin, however, would love to sit outside but do nothing active. He would enjoy just watching Emil play around. Or he'd be making a drawing. Or, like right now, making a puzzle. That was a perfectly relaxing day for him.
And then there's T and me. T would often try to play alongside Emil, but fail miserably as Emil would outplay anyone with his level of energy. I would try to spend some time by Jin's side so as to not leave him out.
Today, I tried to play with Emil. But he was so fast! "Emil," I ran after him. Even though he was only 5 years old, he was so fast. As I was running after him, he was laughing like crazy. "I'll get you!"
"No!" He shouted before hiding behind the goal.
I looked at him, arms crossed. "How about we play some soccer?"
He looked at it before nodding. "I win."
"Show me." I gave him the ball.
He kicked the ball, slowly, into the goal. He then looked at me. "I win!" He repeated.
I chuckled. "Now it's my turn," I took the ball and looked at the goal. I kicked the ball and, purposely, missed. "Oh no."
Emil laughed even more. "I win, I win!"
I smiled at him before looking at Jin. I saw he was looking at us. "Why don't you practice some more, tiger? I'll be right back."
He nodded and started kicking the ball at the goal.
I walked to Jin. "Hey Jinnie," I said as I went to sit down at the table with him. I looked at the puzzle, he was doing good. "That looks good."
He looked at me. "Why lie?"
I looked at him. "Lie?" I frowned a bit. "I didn't lie. It really does look good."
He shook his head. "You lie to Emil," He said before pointing at the goal. "You missed on purpose."
I looked at him. "I tried my best."
He nodded. "I understand." He looked back at his puzzle.
I couldn't help but feel bad suddenly. "Sometimes things happen," I said, gaining his attention. "They just happen." I said, using his words from the night before.
He smiled a bit before nodding. And I knew then, he understood.
Before I could say something else, I heard the doorbell. I frowned, I didn't expect company. "I'll be right back."
I walked to the front door and opened it. I raised my eyebrows. "Eva?"
