Shadow canonically eats coffee beans out of the bag with a spoon and I wanted to use that as a silly domestic idea. I used a comic based on that piece of lore as a base for when Shadow is actually eating the coffee beans.

You stretched as you woke up. You felt Shadow's lack of presence then noticed his empty side of the bed. You sat up while rubbing your eyes. You contemplated staying in bed, only to hear the kettle whistling.
Does Shadow drink tea? you thought. If he does, I've never seen him drink it.
You got out of bed and headed downstairs. You went to the kitchen. You were met with Shadow eating coffee beans out of the tin. He noticed you and spoke after swallowing, "Good morning, darling." He popped more beans into his mouth and grabbed the kettle off the stove.
"Morning, Shadow," you said. You were about to ask him about the coffee beans, but your train of thought immediately stopped when he casually poured the steaming water into his mouth. "What the he- Shadow, what-"
He looked at you while filling his mouth. He gave you a thumbs up. You stared in confusion. He swallowed the coffee-bean-water mix. "What?"
"You don't make coffee like a normal person?" you asked. "Why do you eat the coffee beans straight from the container?"
"I want coffee, not coffee flavored water. You can see I chewed the beans first. I got the flavor before the water diluted it," he explained. "I usually eat them just with a spoon."
"...What about instant coffee?" you asked.
"Beans only," was his response.
"Okay," you said. "Well, are we low? I can get you some more since I have to go out today, anyway."
"Thank you," he said, indirectly answering your question.
"Do you want me to get that same brand and flavor or something different?" you followed up.
"This flavor. It's perfectly dark, " he said before eating another handful of coffee beans. He spoke after swallowing, "Are you hungry? I was about to start breakfast."
You sat at the island. "What're you gonna make?"
"Eggs. We both need protein. I went out and got you fresh (favorite fruit) yesterday," he said.
You smiled. "Thanks, Shadow. So, what's on the agenda today?"
"It's supposed to rain," he informed. A clap of thunder sounded in the near distance as if on cue. "I'd like you to teach me that one video game you've been binging."
You smiled happily. "Okay."
