He'd been told that finding the one was the most magical moment to happen in one's life. Ever since he was a child the idea of finding a soul mate was made to be the biggest milestone in a person's life. But as he grew older he found himself reluctant to date. There were many larger aspects of life he found to be more important than a date penciled in for a Friday night.

Over the years Castiel had written four novels, all of which had hit charts in bookstores across the nation. As his fanbase grew so did his yearning to write more. In the midst of his fifth novel he found himself seated at his desk, with his fingers resting on the keys idly, staring at the date on the corner of his computer screen. It was his 36th birthday.

Suddenly something deep inside of him ached. His eyes roamed to see the spot on his clustered shelves where his published books rested. They were what he had to show for his life. Making friends and finding lovers had never been something that was part of his routine. Now, staring back down at the date, he realized all too suddenly that he was lonely. The characters in his books no longer gave him the satisfaction of company.

Without finishing the next line, he grabbed his phone and quickly dialed his brother's number.

'

"I don't think this is what I meant." Castiel's eyes widened comically in fear as his eyes roamed across the dance floor. The music was loud enough to make him have to scream to be heard.

Gabriel rolled his eyes with a devilish smirk as he slung an arm across his brother's shoulders. "You said and I quote, "I need to meet someone". Well, Cassie, this is a club. A gay glub to be exact since the gay gene in our family is mighty strong. Believe me this is the best one in town and a looker like you shouldn't have any trouble finding a dude."

Castiel gripped the drink in his palm a little tighter as nerves coursed through him. "My social skills are too lacking for this environment."

"Jesus, man, sometimes I forget that your default language is technical English. Take Frankie's advice and relax." Gabriel made eye contact with a good looking taller man who was seated at the corner of the bar. "Just found my next mistake."

"If you know he is a mistake why-"

"Pop culture, Cassie. Learn it, live it, love it." And with that Gabriel was sauntering off toward the bar to strike up conversation with the hottest guy there.

Castiel allowed himself to get swallowed back against the wall. Away from the bustle he could at least clear his mind a little. He spotted Gabriel and watched as he had the mysterious man laughing in no time. There was an air around his brother that made him irresistible to men. Castiel wished he was more like his brother.

Shaking off those thoughts, he turned his attention back to the dance floor. Some men were dancing like they were already plastered although it was still early in the night. Some women were dancing so sexually Castiel had to look away with a flush. Others were simply swaying the music or grinding against one another with a look of heat Castiel had never known. There was one man that stood out. He was taller, with darker blonde hair that was matted to his forehead with sweat and the greenest eyes Castiel remembers ever seeing. The man was swaying sensually to the music with hips that seemed to be carved by God. Castiel knew in his head that a man like that, a man that gorgeous and confident, would never talk to a guy such like himself. But his heart allowed him to imagine for a fleeting moment being asked out, dined, made love to, and then maybe wed. It was an insane thought, one he quickly destroyed.

Castiel dropped his eyes back to his drink. Why he ever thought that calling Gabriel for this type of a thing would end well, he will never know. The music was still blaring and the place was beginning to smell like stale sweat. All he wanted to do was go home. Maybe he would.

Without looking up, Castiel maneuvered himself through the crowd toward the bar to let his brother know that he would be calling it a night. One night of failure wasn't too bad for him. He had gone years before he found a publisher. If the same happened with a guy then he would handle it like he did before.

Finding Gabriel was easy, for such a short man he was loud. Castiel patted his shoulder until he got Gabriel's eyes on his. "I'm going home."

Gabriel's bottom lip stuck out as he flashed his puppy eyes. "Cassie! The night's still young. You can't go home yet."

The man that Gabriel is talking to turned and gave Castiel a polite smile. "I'm Sam."

"Pleasure to meet you. Castiel Novak." He wondered idly if people shook hands in clubs. Before he had time to wonder the handsome man from the dance floor almost collided with Sam.

"Yo! Sammy!" The man grinned wide enough to show his tonsils. "Who are these handsome devils?" Green eyes flashed across Castiel's face.

"This is Gabriel." Sam winked at Gabe with a saucy smile. "And his brother Castiel."

"So many 'iel's. I like it." The man outstretched his hand toward Castiel, like he completely forgot Gabriel was even introduced. "I'm Dean."

"Pleasure." Castiel took the hand and allowed himself the weakness of holding it longer than he should have. But when he went to let go he found Dean only gripped his hand tighter.

Dean's smile only widened. "Pleasure is all mine, sweetheart."

'

Castiel woke up to a dull ache in the front side of his brain. As his mind came back to him from sleep he was able to register that he was not in his home. The smell was off, it was spicier and more masculine. The events from last night came crashing down on him. Sam had introduced his brother Dean. Dean had danced with him. Dean had kissed him on the dance floor. Dean had taken him to his house...

Castiel opened his eyes to see green ones peering back at him. It didn't take him long to realize he was completely naked between the covers with this stranger. Sure, Dean had been kind and passionate but he was still a stranger. Castiel had never slept with someone he had just met. But... no regret welled in his chest. Instead all he could find was a smile pulling at the corners of his lips.

"Mornin', sweetheart." Dean's voice was more rough in the morning. His eyes were still muddled with eye crusts from sleep. "Sleep well?"

"Very much so. Did you?"

"Mmmmm." Dean closed his eyes and stretched his arm forward before letting it fall across Castiel's waist. "Best sleep in a long time. Wanna go out for breakfast?"

"Uh-" Castiel paused. He had figured this was a one night stand. Dean seemed like the man to have all kinds of those. Even last night Sam had mentioned how many men Dean took into his bed. Was he proposing breakfast as a way to get Castiel out of his home?

"If you don't want to, that's fine." But Dean's smile faltered. "I mean, if all you wanted was sex then I can drive you home."

Castiel searched Dean's eyes for a moment. In a few seconds he realized that the dull ache of loneliness was gone from his chest. "I'd love breakfast."

Dean's smile widened until it crinkled the skin around his eyes. "Awesome." He didn't wait a moment before pulling Castiel into a kiss. When he pulled back he made a cute face. "Sorry for the morning breath."

"No need for apology. I'd rather be kissing you than not." Castiel flushed.

"Sweetheart, if you keep this up I'm gonna fall for you in no time." Dean said fondly as he ran his fingers through Castiel's bed head.

"Keep what up?" He tilted his head and squinted his eyes to peer into Dean's eyes questionably.

"That right there." Dean set his palm against Castiel's cheek and stared down at him like there was nothing else in the world worth seeing. "Being so damn cute it takes my breath away."

Castiel's seventh novel features a dedication,

"For my adoring husband, who made me coffee when I wrote all night and carried me to bed when I fell asleep at the computer. If I never met you I'd never understand how profound I could love. Dean Winchester, you are the reason I made it this far."
