Castiel knew that he was lucky to have even got one date with the gorgeous man who was Dean Winchester. His entire life he had figured that he would settle when it came to romance, that he would never find someone to actually love in a way that frightens him to death. But during his senior year of college he had bumped into the mechanic and from there grew something that Cas had never prepared himself for: love.

Three years into their relationship and Cas knew that he would never find someone else as perfect for him as Dean. Sure they had their fights, but they always came back together stronger than before. There were few times when Castiel actually thought Dean would leave him, that the love they built would crumble to dust at their feet. Tonight was the night that Castiel felt a deep burn searing his insides as he watched his boyfriend smile flirtatiously at their waiter.

"Just a coke would be fine." Dean's voice was low in a way that made a sting come to Cas' eyes.

The waiter turned to him with a raised eyebrow.

"I-I'll have a water." Cas lowered his eyes as the waiter left the two in silence.

Dean hummed lightly as he flipped through his menu. "Whatcha gonna get?"

Castiel's appetite was gone. For years he knew that Dean was too good for him, that Dean would move on to someone better, but to witness the way Dean was already checking out new potential people made his tongue go tart.

"Cas? Babe, what are you ordering?"

If only Dean would let him down easy and break it off with him before he could fall any deeper into those mystical eyes. "Maybe a burger."

"Burger sounds great." Dean's voice died off a bit. "You okay?"

Cas finally lifted his eyes as he felt the sting of tears. "I'm fine. I think I just got a headache."

"I got some advil in the car-"

"It's fine." Cas looked down at his menu but it only made his insides ache more. He used to find comfort and solace in his boyfriend's eyes. Now all he could see was the truth that Cas never had a chance of holding onto Dean. "I think I am just going to get my food to go."

"Okay. Wanna go back to my place? I have that heating pad." Concern from Dean's voice washed over Cas in waves.

"N-no. You stay here and enjoy." Cas was just about to stand and go to the restroom to pull himself together before the waiter returned when the man appeared at their table with a hospitable smile.

"Coke and a water." The waiter set them both down then turned to his pad. "What will you gentlemen be having?"

Cas was going to wait for Dean to order, keeping his head down so he didn't see that flirtatious smile that sent daggers plunging into his heart, but when a couple moments of silence filled the air he raised his head. Dean was staring at him with confusion and worry, not giving the waiter any attention.

"Actually my boyfriend isn't feeling so well so I'm just going to pay for these drinks and we'll be out of here." Dean reached into his pants for his wallet, never letting his eyes waver from Cas', realization donning in his eyes.

"Oh, okay." The waiter took the money that Dean offered him and was off again with a polite smile.

Castiel felt his insides burn and his throat dry up. "Dean, you could've-"

"I'm going to take my boyfriend home, tuck him into bed, and watch movies with him until we both fall asleep. That's what the hell I am going to do." Dean stood up and reached his hand out palm up.

Cas reluctantly stood and slid his hand against Dean's, their fingers intertwining. They made their way quietly out of the place. The entire time Cas was worried that Dean was angry at him for being so stupid over the smile, it wasn't the first time Cas had reacted to Dean's flirting. Last time they had an argument, Dean saying that he was just naturally flirtatious but he would never ever cheat or leave Cas and Cas saying that Dean would eventually.

The moment they were to the impala Dean stopped and brought Cas flush against his chest in a breathtaking hug. "You are so stupid for being the smartest person I know."

"I'm sorry." Cas pushed his face into Dean's neck and tried to find the beating pulse of his lover's.

Dean paused as he hugged Cas closer and let out a sigh. "I love you, dumbass, and that waiter means nothing to me."

"But-"

"Nope. No 'but's. You're the man I fell in love with and no matter what you're the man I'm gonna die old with. The sooner you realize that the better. I love you, Castiel Novak, and I hope to be Mr. Dean Novak someday."

Cas pulled his head back and looked up into Dean's eyes with a splitting grin. "Really?"

"Duh." Dean smiled with such adoration in his eyes it took Cas' breath away. "Next time I so much as look at another person for too long you punch me in the dick. I never want to hurt you. I'm sorry."

Cas shook his head and sealed their lips together. As the name Dean Novak ran through his mind and Dean's lips were moving against his, Cas let all of his self-doubt crumble around their feet.
