“Cassie, please just go to sleep.” Gabriel soothed his brother under the warm covers and patted his head lightly. “Tomorrow with be better, I promise.”
Castiel tilted his head away from his older brother’s hand and felt the sniffling of another sobbing fit choke at the back of his throat. “It won’t be Gabe. Everything will never be better.”
Gabriel’s heart broke at the sight of the tears starting to stream from his baby brother’s eyes, but he knew that there was nothing he could do for now. Time would tell how Castiel would do. “Rest. Tomorrow is another day.” With that he stood and left the room quietly. Guilt on his conscience for not being able to save his brother’s weeping heart.
Castiel shifted under the covers and turned on his side with his back to the door. It had been three days since their parents died in that car accident. Not a minutes goes by that Castiel doesn’t feel the strain of being an orphan. Even with Gabe by his side, Castiel wanted to escape it all. He wanted to run away to some dream place where no one died and everyone was happy.
As sleep started to burn at the edges of his sore eyes, Castiel heard the shutter from his window. Usually Gabe closed them, but tonight he had forgotten. The wind carried the windows open and let the night air rush in. Castiel couldn’t seem to mind, he was too far concentrated on praying to escape this place.
Something made a low thud that sent Castiel’s heart to stop and dread to wash over him. He had outgrown the fears of monsters under the bed, but he knew that now he wasn’t alone in his room. Keeping his eyes clenched shut, Cas pretending to be asleep in hopes that whatever was there would leave.
“Dammit.” A voice muttered with a low groan. “Sammy, I think you got the wrong house. This place is a ghost town.”
A smaller lighter voice answered with some annoyance. “No, Dean. This is the place. The kid here has been praying for Neverland.”
More shuffling and Cas felt his hands clench into fists. The voices weren’t as evil as he had expected them to be, but nonetheless he was still softly crying inside. If he screamed he wondered if he would have time for Gabe to get to him. Unfortunately his whole body was numb in fear.
Then something poked his shoulder lightly. “Hey, you the kid who wanted to escape?”
Castiel flipped on his side and swung a fist up at the voice that was now close to him. His hand hit nothing as his eyes adjusted and saw no one was there. In confusion, Castiel sat up in his bed and saw a figure toward the opposite wall of his room. This thing wasn’t human, was Castiel’s first thought as he stood up from his bed and braced himself for a fight.
“Nice right hook, kid. But do you really want to hurt the one guy who can take you away from all this?” Dean asked as he stepped out from the shadows and met Castiel’s eyes. “I can take you somewhere beyond your wildest dreams.”
Cas let out a low snort but didn’t let his fists fall. He inspected the boy standing in his room. He was in some type of green tunic, with what looked like lighter green tights and brown shoes that resembled moccasins. It all looked like some type of weird dream. But Castiel knew he was awake, his heart was pounding too hard for him to be asleep.
                              “How can I trust you?”
Dean shrugged and before his mouth could open a white ball of light appeared from behind his back and started to slowly dance in the darkened room. Cas’ mouth fell open as his eyes stayed transfixed on the light orb that soon made a light circle around Cas. As the thing came closer Castiel could see that it was a small person with golden wings.
