Song is Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World
'
“Cas?” The hunter’s cracked voice was bitter as it echoed through the empty street. “Are you listening? I know that-I know that last time we saw each other you told me that you were done. I know you said that you were going back to heaven and that you wouldn’t come to me again. But I can still pray, can’t I? You can still hear me up there?” Green eyes fogged over as the broken man allowed his knees to give out and he sat down on the cold concrete. “There was so much I didn’t get to say, Cas. So much that I needed to say. Maybe-maybe if I would’ve said it you would still be here… with me.”
There's no one in town I know
You gave us some place to go.
I never said thank you for that.
I thought I might get one more chance.
What would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I'll never have a chance.
“You were always there for us, Cas. Always. I acted like a stubborn child when you came back to me. After everything, purgatory and the apocalypse, I just didn’t know what to say to you. But now that you’re gone, I just can’t let myself keep it in. You were everything, Cas. I was dead inside, rotting while I was still breathing. You kept trying to save me, even when I know there was nothing left to save. The thought that you won’t be here to save me… I miss you, Cas.”
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
So what would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I'll never have a chance.
Silence filled the alley as chilled drops of rain pattered against his leather jacket. There was nothing left in the hunter’s life. His brother was gone, his mentor was gone, and his angel was gone. The world had taken everything from him and left him nothing in return.
“I thought I was supposed to be the hero. You told me that I was a Righteous Man. Well, am I still that? Heroes are supposed to have happy endings, aren’t they? My family should be alive. You should be here and not up there. I got used to people leaving me, it was just something that happened. But losing you, God, I can’t bare it. I can’t do this alone. I can’t-“ His voice cut off just as a choked sob shook his shoulders. He used to hold in the crying, he used to try to be strong, but his strength was gone. Everything was gone.
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
“Cas?” Dean called out as his head tilted back and his eyes searched the array of stars cast above him. “Cas, please. Answer me.”
May angels lead you in.
“Cas?”
May angels lead you in.
“Dean.” One word spoken by the familiar rough voice jolted Dean’s body forward. Castiel stood just an arm’s reach away. The familiar trench coat draped over his shoulders, but his eyes were different. They were less blue, almost gray now. Lines etched into his face from worry and despair. The once almighty angel stood motionless in front of his hunter.
“Cas?”
And if you were with me tonight,
I'd sing to you just one more time.
A song for a heart so big,
god wouldn't let it live.
“It’s me, Dean.” Castiel took a small step forward, his eyes gazing down at Dean with new emotion that took the hunter’s breath away. “I heard your call.”
Dean clenched his jaw to keep the sob from breaking his lips. In an instant he stood and collapsed against his savior. “Don’t leave me, Cas. Don’t ever go again. I am sorry. I am so sorry for everything. Please-“
“There is nowhere else for me to go. There never was.” Cas closed his eyes and melted against the embrace that he had waited for since he pulled his righteous man from the depths of the pit.
May angels lead you in.
“I love you, Cas. I am sorry it took me so long to say it.” Dean breathed against his angel’s neck and gave in to everything he was too selfish to admit years ago. “Love you.”
“I love you, too, Dean.” The angel pressed his lips firmly against the hunter’s temple and prayed that they would find solace in each other. “I always have.”
May angels lead you in.
