"His name is Peter." Mary breathed through her nose as she picked at the hem of her shirt and kept her gaze low. Anything could come out of this conversation, and she was prepared for the worst. It wasn't a secret how protective her fathers were over her.
"Peter?" Cas asked lightly, but there were traces of some heat below his tone. "How long have you known him?"
"About three weeks." Mary shifted in her seat and dared to peer up at her parents.
Cas nodded with a straight face as he leaned back against the kitchen counter and crossed his arms over his chest. Dean was leaning on the counter with a grin across his face and the look that he was about to snicker.
"Does he wear green tights?" There it was, the first joke from Dean.
Mary groaned and rolled her eyes. "That isn't funny, dad."
"What are his grades?"
"I don't know."
"What do his parents do for a living?" Cas' voice was getting back to that interrogation tone that Mary always loathed.
"Still don't know."
"Does he have a job?"
"Yeah, he works down at the mall." Mary turned her head to see Dean smirking like an idiot.
Here comes the next joke as if on cue. "Does Peter know a piper?"
"It's like you think you are hilarious but in fact your sense of humor is painfully horrible." Mary gave Dean a wicked glare before turning back to Cas.
Dean bent over the counter and laughed from the bottom of his stomach like he was the world's most famous comedian. The laughter continued as Cas measured Mary's eyes and seemed to be wanting some type of answer that she didn't know the question for.
"Have you kissed him?" At Cas' words Dean's laughter abruptly cut off and the room was tensely quiet.
"No, we are taking it slow. We have been friends for three weeks but it wasn't until yesterday that he asked me out on an official date." With Mary's answer both men's face lightened a little and the tension was gone.
"Where are the two of you going?"
Mary wasn't surprised by all of Cas' questions, she knew that he was the worry wart of the family and that she had never had a boyfriend before so it was new ground for all of them. "We were thinking a movie."
"What movie?"
"I don't know. Something PG."
Dean let out a soft snort. "Better keep it PG."
"Dad!" Mary threw back her head and sighed deeply.
"I want to meet him." Cas didn't let Dean's joking get in the way of his seriousness. "When he comes to pick you up, he will come in and meet us."
Mary dropped her head back and stared at Cas. "Okay."
For the first time since the subject of Peter was brought up, Cas smiled warmly. "Glad that is settled. You father and I will discuss what your curfew will be later. For now, dinner is almost ready." His back turned as he peeked into the oven.
Dean walked around the counter and pulled Mary in for a bone crushing hug that left her a bit winded. Nonetheless she wormed her arms under her father's and hugged him back. Dean was the hugger of the family to everyone's surprise.
"Just be careful, sweetie, that guy breaks your heart and I will break his face."
"Is that another joke?"
