Prompt from anon: in which every time cas looks into deans eyes (i.e. a lot) he can hear his thoughts
'
Dean was staring off into the darkly lit sky that held the promise of a chilly rain storm. The scent of dampness filled Cas' nose but he didn't quite understand it. Instead, he watched the hunter silently and worried deeply the way that Dean was struck by the weather that was closing around them. Work on the impala had been dropped, as Dean let himself fall deeply into his love for rain storms and the simple contentness of a summer rain.
The angel didn't dare say a word to disrupt a thinking Dean. But when thunder rolled over the trees in a low roar, Dean turned and fixed his eyes on Cas. Just like always, the two found comfort in the unspoken comfort of each other's gaze. Those misty green eyes had saved Castiel from breaking down on more than one occasion, always grounding him and reminding him what he was fighting for. But now, with the wind picking up, Cas decided to break his promise to Dean about reading his mind. More than anything in the world, Cas needed to hear what was going on behind those mystifying eyes.
"If I could choose a heaven, this would be it. A gentle rain and Cas' eyes." The words were low coming from Dean's mind, but they were soft enough to unravel Cas. He had never heard Dean's voice so full of emotion and longing and Cas soon became addicted to it.
"Maybe Cas will go soon, and let me forget the breaking in my heart. Every time he is around, I feel like I can't breathe." Dean's content face faltered, but their eyes stayed glued as if they were perpetually stuck together.
"Sammy says that Cas is more important to me than I realize. But how important? God, I wish I could just pray and have my answer. I wish I could just know... because those damn blue eyes are the only thing that keeps me sane anymore. And if they leave, I don't know how I will survive. He is all I have."
"Dean-" Cas couldn't take the thoughts anymore, they were making his vessel shake and his eyes start to leak again.
Dean's eyes dropped and the words that Cas began to cling to were suddenly gone, only leaving this emptiness and aching to know more. "It's about dinner time. I'm gonna go-" But when Dean raised his eyes, Castiel was gone.
'
Castiel sat down in the booth of the diner across from Dean. Sam nudged his side and raised an eyebrow, usually Cas would always sit beside Dean. He always figured it had something to do with their profound bond, the closeness.
"I am just checking in to see what you are up to. I hear talk of a ghost a couple towns over." Cas said lightly as he watched Dean's face as he inhaled a handful of fries.
Dean chumped away with bursting cheeks and shrugged without meeting Cas' eyes. "We heard about it."
"And?"
"Maybe." Dean finally peered up and met the angel's eyes. Why does he always have to just appear like this? It drives me crazy. Can't he just stay and not go? If he never went, he'd never just pop in when me and Sammy were talking about him.
Cas turned as he heard that they were talking about him and measured Sam. "What were the two of you talking about before I appeared?"
Sam flushed a little but pouted his lips into a straight line. "The price of tea in China."
Dean snorted and took a bite from his cheeseburger. "Right."
Cas slumped down in the seat and squinted his eyes at Dean. Ever since that day just before the storm, Cas couldn't settle the war in his mind. Dean had never thought about Cas much when Cas was allowed to read his mind, so why now? Why after everything does Dean suddenly show this immense interest in Cas.
