Dean let his body fall onto the bed torso first without allowing his arms to catch himself. His face burrowed into his pillow. As he let out a breath of air that deflated his chest, he felt a warm hand rub between his shoulder blades. All Dean could respond with was a grunt.

"How was bed time?" His husband's voice melted some of the tension in Dean's back.

Dean twisted his neck so he could lie on his cheek and look up at Cas with narrowed eyes. "Why did we ever think four kids was a good idea?"

Cas chuckled as he set his book on his nightstand and turned onto his side to rest against Dean. "'We'? I seem to remember you saying you wanted and I quote, 'a house full of rugrats'. I was simply giving you what you wanted, love."

Dean huffed with a pout. "At the time it sounded like an awesome idea."

"And now?" Cas lightly traced Dean's hairline with his fingertips.

Dean grunted as he let his eyes fall shut. "Mary decided that she wanted to play with Grace's baby-doll. Instead of asking her like a civilized person would, she ripped it from her and so I had to calm down a wailing Grace. I can't stand that sound, Cas. It took me an hour to calm them both down and finally they came to an agreement to play with it together.

"Bobby and Mark thought it would be hilarious to tape a string across the doorway low enough that when I walked in I tripped and fell onto their loads of little army men. As I was scolding them they then decided that together they could tackle me. I think one of my ribs is broken."

Cas made a soothing hum in the back of his throat as he wrapped his arms around Dean's shoulders awkwardly and scooped up his husband to lay him against his chest. "Do you know what Grace told me the other day?"

"Hm?" Dean's breathing was growing heavier as he burrowed his face against Cas' neck.

"She said that her daddy is a hero." Cas smiled to himself as he ran his fingers through Dean's hair. "Said that you were the best person in the entire world and when she grew up she was going to be just like you. When I asked her what she meant, she said that she wanted to be a kind strong person who loves with all of her heart."

Dean's pout slowly started to turn into a smile.

Cas went on with a far-off look in his eyes. "I took Mary to the store yesterday. We were looking through the toy section and she spotted a model-car building kit. It was for a '67 Chevy Impala. Before I could ask her if she wanted it she had it in her arms and she told me that she was going to make it for you. She said that it was special because you always take her on rides in our Impala and it's her favorite part of the day."

Dean's lips continued to turn up as he felt tears start to bud against his eyelids.

"This morning Bobby and Mark were playing army men on the kitchen table just before I was about to head out to work. They were completely caught up in their own little world that they didn't see me watching them. I watched for a few minutes as they made little sounds and knocked down men. Then Bobby picked up one of the fallen men and said that he was better and fixed. Mark pouted saying that was cheating. I watched in silence as Bobby reminded Mark that their daddy had been in the army and that he had gotten hurt and he was still strong and alive. The looks of pride on our sons faces... It took my breath away." Cas craned his neck and placed a kiss on Dean's head.

Green eyes slowly opened as tears spilled down his cheeks. He looked up to see his husband looking at him as if he was the most adored person on this planet, and maybe he was right. Before he opened his mouth Cas placed a finger against his lips.

"They love you so much, Dean. I know that they can be troublesome, and that they will say they hate us from time to time... but I will never doubt that they love us. Someday, when we are gray and wrinkled, we are going to look back on these days and wish we had held onto them longer."

Dean smiled through a short sob and wasted no time wrapping his arms around Cas' neck. "I love you and I love our family."

Cas nodded as he held Dean's quivering body in his arms. He knew that some days Dean would get frustrated being at home with the children every day... but he also knew that there was nowhere in this world either of them would rather be.

Their door creaked open causing both men to pull away and glance over at the door. Bobby stuck his little head in with his eyes cast down. "Dad?"

Dean cleared his throat and wiped furiously at his eyes. "Yeah, Bobby?"

"I'm sorry." Bobby looked back up with meek eyes. "We didn't mean to hurt your feelings."

Just then Mark stepped out from behind Bobby with guilt ridden eyes. "I'm sorry, too. We thought it would be funny."

"It's okay, guys." Dean scooted to the edge of his bed and held his arms open. "C'mere."

The two boys sprinted across the room in their pjs before all but colliding against Dean's chest. All three of them wrapped themselves in a tight hug. Dean looked down at the tops of his sons' heads and smiled with renewed tears.

Castiel crawled over and ran his fingers through his sons' hair. "You two should be getting off to bed. You have school tomorrow."

The two nodded in unison before climbing off of Dean's lap and retreating from the room. Dean's eyes were glued to them as they disappeared. His smile widened when he felt a chest press against his back and arms wrapped around his stomach.

Chapped lips pressed against the skin below Dean's ear. "See? They love you."

"Yeah, yeah." Dean waved his hand dismissively in the air but couldn't stop the low thudding of his heart. "It was kinda funny."

Cas chuckled as he pulled Dean back and they fell onto their bed in a tangled jumble. "I'm happy, Dean."

"Me too, sweetheart." Dean pressed his lips softly against Cas'. "I wouldn't trade this life in for any other."
