“Dean, the guy has nowhere to go.” Sam straightened his tie as he cleared his throat and stared at his older brother. “With the case still open, I have to find him somewhere to go until the culprit is caught and a trail is ensued. Please, let him stay here, as a favor for me.”

Dean stared up at his brother from his warm seat on the couch. He let out a deep breath. “So, my house is this place for you to dump your witnesses at? Like I don’t have a life?”

“He needs this. I can’t trust any of my officers, I think we have a mole. I just need this one thing, Dean. No one at the office knows about you. As far as they know, we haven’t spoken in years.” Sam shrugged. “It isn’t like we have been on the best terms.”

“And now you are dumping some stranger on my doorstep.” Dean stood as he set his hands on his hips and stared at his brother. Looking into Sam’s eyes, Dean saw the years they had spent together in a happy life. Sam still looked like the young boy Dean had once raised. He took a deep breath and nodded. “Fine. How long?”

“Thank you.” Sam smiled widely as he started for the door. “He is downstairs. I think about a month or so. There is no way to tell.”

Dean glared at the back of his brother’s head. “Are you serious? He is here now?”

“Where else would he be? If you refused I was going to try and take him to Bobby’s.” Sam opened the door and looked over his shoulder. “Thank you, I know this isn’t ideal or anything. But I appreciate it a lot.”

“Yeah yeah. This guy better be okay.” Dean watched Sam disappear out his front door. He sighed deeply and rubbed his forehead. In the last two weeks he had lost his girlfriend and his job. Not only was he starting to tap into his old funds, and try to find a new job, but he was going to have to care for another human being. All because Sam came over and played his puppy dog eyes on him. Dean would go to hell and crawl back out again for Sam without a second thought.

The door opened again and he looked up to see Sam carrying one bag in his hand while a shorter darker haired man stumbled in behind him. Dean watched this newcomer with curiosity. The man brought his soulful blue eyes up and met Dean’s. Instantly Dean felt a little more relaxed. This guy couldn’t hurt a fly.

“Dean, this is Castiel Novak. Castiel, this is my brother Dean. You are in safe hands here. No one will find you.” Sam grinned as he pushed Castiel further in the door and set his bag near him. Sam winked at his brother. “I have to go, I have a dead line on a case and I can’t screw this one up. Keep him safe, Dean. I have faith in you.”

“Yeah, alright.” Dean muttered as he watched Sam open the door and slam it shut behind him, leaving Dean alone with this valuable asset.

Castiel shifted his weight and fumbled his hands in front of him. His eyes dropped the his bag that was lying at his feet. Dean sighed deeply as he lurched forward and grabbed the duffel in his grasp. He stood up and turned to start for the guest bedroom.

“I have one spare room, it has a bed and a wardrobe. I only have one bathroom so we will be sharing. The kitchen is that way. Living room is through that door. You want something special from the store, write it down on the fridge. You won’t be leaving the house, so get comfortable. TV is in the living room. I don’t watch it much, so it’s yours. Also, you need anything else, let me know.” Dean explained and he felt like a butler. The door to the guest bedroom was open so Dean tossed the bag onto the bed. He turned to face Castiel, but he only saw an empty hallway.
