"Once upon a time there was an angel who lived up in Heaven." He cleared his throat as he shifted on his daughter's bed and let his eyes wander to the blank pink wall. "This angel loved his life as a warrior for God, but he always felt as though something was missing. It wasn't until one day when he was commanded to save a Righteous Man from the depths of a very bad place did he find out what he was missing.
"So he fought his way against demons and monsters until he reached the place of this man's soul. The angel grabbed as tightly as he could to that beautiful soul and raised it from perdition. When the angel tried to speak the man, the man wasn't able to understand him. Doing the only thing the angel could think of, he appeared as a man.
"The Righteous Man and the angel had a rough start. Their friendship was wavered when the angel's family told them they couldn't be together, that the Righteous Man was corrupting the angel. When it came time for the angel to choose between this man and heaven, the angel clipped his wings.
"And when the angel came home to tell the man about how he was cast away from heaven, the Righteous Man kissed the angel. It was the angel's first kiss where he understood what love was. As the years passed the angel and the man fell so in love that not even Heaven tried to tear them apart again. Even the King of Hell was present at their wedding, though he only came for the refreshments... or so he says.
"After a few years of being bound in marriage, the man said he wanted a family with the angel. They adopted a little girl with the most gorgeous hazel eyes they two had ever seen. From the moment she came into their lives they were wrapped around her finger. More years passed and the time that came and went only made the family grow stronger.
"There isn't a day that goes by that the angel doesn't think about the day he fell from Heaven. He thinks about what his life would be like if he hadn't chosen the Righteous Man. It's then that he realizes he wouldn't want any other life. Although they fight, and their daughter can be a handful, the angel wouldn't ever want another path. He loves his life, and his family, and he no longer misses his wings.
"Happily ever after." Castiel looked down to see his daughter's eyes closed gingerly and her small body rising and falling in heavy breaths.
The fallen angel leaned down to press one last goodnight kiss to his daughter's head before he stood and made his way out of her room. His footsteps were light as he snuck into his bedroom and found his husband sprawled across their bed snoring. Castiel smiled softly as he undressed and crawled up into the bed.
Just when he had himself nestled against Dean's side, he felt a warm arm wrap around his waist. "Goodnight, Dean."
"'Night, sweetheart. You tell her our story again?" Dean's voice was so low and grumbly Cas barely understood it.
"She asked." Cas pressed his smile against his husband's neck. "She said that the love between the angel and the Righteous Man is the best love story ever told."
Dean snorted weakly. "Yeah, yeah. Maybe you should write a book."
"Maybe I should. Love you."
"Love you, too."
