Another song fic, using Redundant by Green Day.

We're living in repetition.
Content in the same old shtick again.
Now the routine's turning to contention,
Like a production line going over and over and over, roller coaster.

“Dean, you need to be more careful.” Cas spoke softly as he grabbed tightly to Dean’s arm and inspected the injury with a sorrowful frown. The room was silent aside from Cas’ measured breathing, but there was an electricity in them both that made the room almost too loud. Careful not to cause Dean to flinch, Cas pressed the rag against the blood and prayed that it would heal soon.

Dean’s eyes never left his fallen angel’s face. The hunter measured every flick of his eyes and crease in his forehead. This wasn’t new to them, it was an old routine. Every hunt Dean came back to the bunker with a new cut or bruise, not only just flesh deep. And every hunt Cas came to Dean’s side and healed it the best he could as only a man could.

Now I cannot speak, I've lost my voice.
I'm speechless and redundant.
'Cause I love you's not enough.
I'm lost for words.

Something caught Dean’s voice in the back of his throat as his eyes watched the once powerful blue eyes turn darker in spirit. He wanted to tell Cas he’d be fine. He wanted to tell him that everything would be okay. Just as he had a million times before. The words were programmed into his mind. But now, sitting his bed with the lighting hitting Cas and causing a shadow behind him that reminded him of his lost wings, Dean couldn’t speak.

Choreographed and lack of passion.
Prototypes of what we were.
Went full circle 'til I'm nauseous.
Taken for granted now.
Now I waste it, faked it, ate it, now i hate it.

They were friends, bonded together by a trial of both heaven and hell. Dean told himself this in the darkest of nights when sleep was a ghost of a memory. Together they had defeated the worst of what life had to offer. Through everything it was him and Cas. Something bitter and foul erupted in Dean’s mouth as he stared at the only man in this world that ever made him feel like he wasn’t poison. For years they had danced around each other, they had faked what they truly were to each other, and now Dean couldn’t take it.

'Cause I cannot speak, I lost my voice.
I'm speechless and redundant, 'cause I love you's not enough.
I'm lost for words.

“Cas?” It was a broken plea that maybe this time he would say the thing he never had the voice to articulate.

Those blue eyes peered up from the bandage and met Dean’s with almost fear. “It’s all patched. I will leave you alone now.”

Before Cas could shift Dean stuck out his hand and gripped it tightly to his arm. Dean blinked and everything was clear. All the years were playing out before his eyes on the lines of Cas’ worn face. Every memory was etched into his fallen angel’s face. It was all there, so plainly written, that they were more than friends. That they always had been.

“Cas, I-I-“ But Dean couldn’t say it. Instead, he leaned in and pressed their lips together.

Now I cannot speak, I've lost my voice.
I'm speechless and redundant.
'Cause I love you's not enough.
I'm lost for words.

Cas pulled back but smiled up into Dean’s eyes in a way that made Dean lose his breath. “I know, Dean. I love you, too.”

Now I cannot speak, I've lost my voice.
I'm speechless and redundant.
'Cause I love you's not enough.
I'm lost for words.
