Prompt from anon: Castiel's first date with dean

'

Two hours late. Castiel stared at the clock and shook his head as he bit on his lower lip. Anger was just now starting to seep into him, usually he was such an easy going kind of guy. But when he accepted a date with a guy who had pestered him for weeks and that same guy blows him off, Castiel started to feel his back ache and his fists clench. This is why he never accepted Dean Winchester’s offers for a date. Because he had worked with the man for two months and he saw firsthand that Dean was clumsy, unreliable, and mostly immature. Completely the opposite of Castiel’s type. He only agreed to this date to make Dean stop flirting with him ridiculously at work.

Castiel felt ridiculous as he sat on his couch in his favorite white button down with the sleeves rolled up just below his elbows. It had taken him about half an hour to settle on this shirt and nice slacks, because it was still a date and he was still a little nervous. Now the asshole didn’t even show up. Sighing deeply and feeling this warm explosion on his cheeks, Castiel stood from the couch and sulked back to his room. It was the first time he was stood up, he didn’t exactly have the most exciting or fun personality. Maybe he would crack open a bottle of wine and just have his own date alone.

That was when a knock came from his door. Cas’ ears twitched as he scooted toward the door and was prepared to rip it open and punch Dean in the face if it was him. But as he swung the door open, he was hit with the sight of a warm smiling Dean with a bouquet of a dozen white roses held out in front of him. Castiel instantly melted despite the rage he had been sitting on just moments before. No one had ever gotten him flowers before, let alone roses.

“Sorry I am late. I feel like such a dick. My brother called me for some emergency and I thought it would be a few minutes but it ended up taking longer. If you are pissed and don’t want to go out with me, I understand. But I would love it if you gave me another chance.” Dean pushed the flowers out closer to Cas with a pleading smile. “I’m so fucking sorry.”

“It’s okay, Dean. Next time please call.” Cas’ eyes stayed glued to the flowers as if he was stuck in some sort of trance. “You didn’t have to-“

“Course I did. Handsome guy like you deserves flowers.”

“I just… I wasn’t expecting-“

“Anything so romantic from me?” Dean chuckled when Cas nodded softly. “I know that at work I come across like a child, but when I want someone I make it my priority to treat them right. Starting with getting these flowers in some water and then taking you out for some very delicious seafood.”

Cas reached out and wrapped his hand around the flowers, their hands brushed briefly and it made Cas’ heart speed up. Turning on his heel, he took the flowers toward his kitchen. “Thank you, Dean. They are beautiful.”

Dean stepped into the doorway and followed Cas carefully as to not disturb anything or make his date uncomfortable. “I thought they were too, then you opened the door and those flowers didn’t stand a chance beside you. I mean, jeez, Cas, you look stunning.”

Castiel set the flowers in a vase and let it run under some cool water. His cheeks were red, something that he couldn’t help and hated to show to people. It was embarrassing, he thought, to flush at such absurd words. The truth was Cas hadn’t combed his hair, or washed his face, or even tried to look decent except for his clothes. Dean was just being polite, he told himself.

“Where are we going to eat?” Cas asked as he kept his eyes on the slowly rising level of the water.

Dean shrugged lightly in his jacket that started to hang a little looser on his frame. “I don’t mind, I was thinking this great seafood place downtown.”
