MiniPrompt from anon: Late night talks

'

Fingers lightly danced in the moonlight and furrowed deeply into the cotton shirt that was wrinkled over Dean’s chest. Their breathing was slow and constant warming both of their bodies despite the snow that fell from the stars outside their window. Dean breathed in deeply and contracted his chest to feel the pulsing body that was pressed so tightly to his side. He cherished the way they fit so perfectly, like pieces of some grand puzzle that was never meant to break apart.

“What are you thinking about?” A small voice spoke up groggily into the darkness.

“You.”

A short laugh that seemed to shake the bed ever so lightly. “What about me?”

Dean closed his eyes. Usually he hated to talk so openly about things that made him lose his breath, or get butterflies in his stomach, or melt his heart, but Castiel was the one person who he felt he could tell anything to.

“The night that I proposed. You remember how I had this whole thing planned so perfectly. You would take a drink from the champagne and see the ring in the bottom of the glass. I thought, I know I am not a big person for romantic gestures, but for once I wanted to knock your socks off. I wanted to really woo you. And that fucking waiter dropped the tray a couple feet from our table.”

Cas let out a short snort as he cuddled closer to Dean and burrowed his face into the groove of Dean’s neck. “I remember.”

“And I threw a huge fit. You sat there, so embarrassed by me, because in your head it was just a couple glasses. In the midst of my rage, you peered down and saw the ring that had fallen just beside your shoe. You bent and picked it up, I was still screaming at the waiter.” Dean let out a ragged sigh. “Then you, being the sweetest thing in the entire universe, grabbed my face and kissed me. You kissed away all the anger and just whispered ‘yes’ against my lips.”

He could feel Cas’ lips turn up into a small smile against his neck. “I remember.”

“God, I loved you so much in that moment I thought I was going to die. I thought, for just a moment, that life couldn’t get any better. I was kissing you, and slipping that ring on your finger… and the world was so perfect, Cas. If I could bottle up that moment, I would never let it stray from my heart.” The words were laced with so much emotion that it caught Dean off guard. He was never one to say the romantic things, but here in the late darkness with his husband curled protectively against him, he finally spoke these words that he always had in him.

“You remember the day of our wedding?” Dean allowed his finger tips to slowly rake over Cas’ arm. Every so often he felt goose bumps and it made his legs itch. “You told me that we couldn’t see each other before the wedding, it was bad luck. And I told you that I didn’t believe in luck… I just couldn’t go a moment without seeing you that day. I had never-never made such a commitment to something in my life, and I just wanted to see you to know that it was all real. That you were really waiting for me at the end of that aisle.”

“I remember.” Cas’ breathing was slow, and wetness started to puddle on Dean’s neck.

“I snuck into your room, just minutes before I had to be at the altar. You pressed your hand over my eyes so I wouldn’t peak, and you kissed me. That was the kiss that made my whole world spin out of control. I had you, it was when I finally realized that we were one. I could never go another day of my life without your kiss. Your hands over my eyes and your lips on mine, standing minutes away from our wedding… I loved you with everything that I had. I should’ve been scared, most guys are aren’t they? But I wasn’t. I was so goddamn happy to have you linked to me that I never for a moment had a chance to be scared.” The confession coming from Dean’s lips was now shaking and cutting off just short at the ends of words.

Cas titled his head up and placed small kisses along Dean’s jaw. Tears mixing on their faces. Dean couldn’t wait another moment before he turned his body and gripped Cas into his chest as if they would die without this closeness. He clung to his husband, the only thing that ever made Dean feel like he was truly living.

“I love you, Cas.” Dean whispered huskily as he tenderly kissed his husband’s neck.

“I love you, too, Dean. Forever.” Warm arms pulled Dean into the hug that he needed to settle his pounding heart.

“Forever.” Dean repeated as the memories faded from his mind and he just breathed in this moment wrapped up in Cas’ arms. Late night talks became a nightly ritual between the two men.
