"We must've taken a wrong turn somewhere." The map in his hands crinkled lightly as he hunched over further to inspect the road lines with squinted eyes. "I don't even see any road signs since about ten minutes back."

"I know where we are." His boyfriend gritted out with a loss of patience. "I just need to get us onto a main road, like a highway or something."

"If you would've listened to me-"

"We would be even more lost." Dean murmured with an eye roll.

Cas paid him no attention. "-we would be where we are supposed to be."

Silence filled the car and the only sound was the gentle purr of the impala. As the miles ticked by Dean began to panic. His eyes glanced over to see Castiel staring out the side window with the map discarded on his lap. Dean knew he fucked up, he just wasn't willing to admit it.

"I thought 'it isn't the destination that counts, it's the journey' or whatever." Dean tried to nudge his boyfriend's side but Cas scooted slightly away from him. "Come on, babe, I'm sorry."

Cas let out a sigh of defeat, he could never stay mad at Dean no matter how hard he tried. "I don't want to be murdered in some back roads of whatever state we may have ventured into. I would rather be at the resort right now. What if we die out here? The car breaks down-"

"We are not going to die." Dean spoke sternly as he let his hand fall from the steering wheel and blindly reached over to find Cas' hand.

Cas felt fingers touch his thigh and immediately linked their fingers together. "What if there is a cabin filled with cannibals-"

"No one gets to taste you but me." Dean chuckled.

"Gross, Dean."

"I'll protect you. Although I'm pretty sure you'd be the one protecting me." The road came to a fork and Dean slowed to a stop. "Which way?"

Cas started for the map in his lap. "Give me-"

"No." Dean grabbed the map and tossed it in the backseat. Their eyes met and Dean smirked softly. "Right or left?"

"Dean-"

"Be adventurous, babe." Dean raised his eyebrows and looked like a toddler about to play a game.

Cas huffed and shook his head with some doubt. "Fine." He cursed God for those soft green eyes that always made him melt. "Right."

"Left it is." Dean smirked as he hit the gas and they went bolting down the road further into the woods.

"You're a child."

"Maybe." Dean grasped Cas' hand a bit tighter. "But you love me."

"That I do." Cas shifted closer to Dean enough to place his head softly on his shoulder. "If we don't make it to the resort by the time I wake up, I am going to kill you myself."

"Kinky."

Cas made a disgusted sound in the back of his throat before cuddling closer and allowing himself to fall deep into the warmth of his boyfriend's side. As he slipped from reality, he could make out a faint whispering voice.

"I love you, Cas. Promise I will always take care of you, no matter where we end up at the end of the day."

When he woke up, Dean was passed out against the driver's side window and they were even more in the middle of nowhere than when he had fallen asleep. But when the glow from the stars cast across Dean's face, Cas smiled. If they never made it to the resort he wouldn't be upset. As long as he had Dean, the destination was always in his grasp.
