Prompt from huntercompaniondetectivegenius : Cas and Dean fighting over what to name their adopted daughter and Sam ending up deciding for them please?

'

Dean stared down at the open book now perched on his lap. Of all the books that he had read for cases he realized that this one was the most important. There would never be a heavier book in his life. Whatever name he got from this book would be what their child would be called for their entire life.

"I think that Hope is a beautiful name."

Turning another page in the book, Dean simply nodded but concentrated on grazing his eyes over the endless list of girl names. "It's okay. But it's not the one."

Cas let out a sigh of frustration, the angel may have been human for years now but he was still coming to terms with the feelings that came. "We have been at this for weeks, Dean. She will be being born any day now and we still don't-"

"A name is important!" Dean growled out more in frustration with the situation than in frustration with his husband. He stood and threw the book against the floor as far away from him as he could. "It's the first important thing we do as parents and we can't fuck it up!"

"Is that what this is about?" Cas suddenly lost all the anger from his eyes.

Dean slouched and rubbed at his eyelids. "I want to be a good father, Cas. I don't... I just... My father made a lot of mistakes but he loved us. I know that. Our mother named us after her parents. We had important names. It makes me feel closer to my family... and I want that for our daughter."

"Do you want to name her Deanna?"

"That's not-" Dean let out a low sigh before opening his eyes and searching Cas' for something. "That's not what I mean. I mean... this name has got to be important to the both of us. It's got to be important enough that our daughter will have it for the rest of her life even when we are gone."

Castiel nodded, as if finally understanding why Dean had been scrutinizing over this for so long. He took a cautious step forward and placed a chaste kiss on Dean's lips. "We will find a name, Dean, and it will be perfect."

Dean was about to say something before Sam waltzed into the living room with a bag of some sort in his grip. The moose grinned at both men shortly before holding up the bag with a proud smile. "So, since we didn't have enough friends to throw a baby shower, I got you guys my own gift."

"That is so thoughtful of you, Sam." Castiel grinned with excitement as he found Dean's hand and intertwined their fingers.

Sam winked at his brother as he tore away the bag and held up a crib set.

Dean's eyes softened at the sight of the Batman bedsheet and pillows. "You're awesome, Sammy."

Sam shrugged with a flush as he handed the gift over to Cas' outstretched hand. "I plan on being a good uncle. So, you two settle on a name yet or I am still going to be hearing nothing but girl names for the rest of my life?"

Both Castiel and Dean looked down with frowns.

The younger Winchester nodded slowly with understanding. "There is one name I haven't heard yet."

"Yeah?" Dean looked up into his brother's eyes with hope.

Sam nodded with a nostalgic glint in his eye. "Mary."

Dean's throat dried close before his mind could realize that there were tears in his eyes. The name had rang in his head a few times, it had come to his attention that maybe it was a good name for his daughter, but he thought it unfair to everyone. Unfair because he didn't think he had the right to name someone after their mother, he didn't know if Sam would react well to it. But now... now the tears couldn't dry before they were spilling down his cheeks onto the collar of his shirt.

"Mary." Castiel spoke the word slowly as if he was tasting it on the tip of his tongue. "Like your mother?"

"Yeah." Sam's own misty eyes met Dean's. "I know that she would've been proud to have a granddaughter. She would've loved your family."

"Sammy-" Dean's voice broke off as he clenched his hands into fists and felt a sob shake his shoulders until small whimpers left his lips. He hated to cry but now he couldn't seem to make it stop.

Warm arms wrapped around Dean and at first he thought it was Cas, but when he felt long hair tickle the side of his face he wrapped his own arms around his younger brother and held tightly to him as if he might slip away. "It's a good name, Dean."

"That it is." Castiel's voice spoke softly from in the distance.

Dean pulled back from his brother's embrace only to meet his husband's eyes with a wide smile that was still soaked with tears. "Mary Hope Winchester."

Castiel's blue eyes widened slightly before they melted into a warmth that stole Dean's heart just as it did every single day. "It's perfect, Dean."

The three men sat together in the living room, discussing the colors for the nursery and the memories of Mary Winchester.

When Dean held his daughter in his arms for the first time, he gazed down at her innocent face with tears in his eyes and whisper, "I'm gonna be the best father that I can be for you, Mary. I promise."
