Today Castiel walked to first period with the numbing knowledge that it was only the first day of his senior year of high school. Three years of this building and these people were enough to make his whole mind ache at a deafening volume. Gabriel, his older brother, had promised him that if this year went smoothly, he would help pay for any college Castiel would want to attend. Gabriel was always the one trying to break Castiel from his shell, but never had it worked before.
The bell rang just as Castiel’s foot stepped into his AP Calculus class. His eyes grazed over the jumbling pack of excited seniors who were ranting among themselves about their summer affairs and parties. Cas mentally groaned to himself as he took a seat toward the front. He loved math classes and spent most of his free time doing extra work and this year he even signed up for a math club that dealt with programming.
“Welcome back.” Mr. Barnes bellowed from the front of the class. Castiel had seen him around last year and was very excited to see how good of a teacher he was. Mr. Barnes was young, for a Calc teacher, and had the most sincere smile on any teacher in that building.
Before Mr. Barnes could open his mouth, the door creaked open and a new student waltzed in. Castiel looked up halfheartedly and widely opened his eyes. The boy was tall, but the first thing Castiel noticed was his green Mohawk. It was bright, and it almost matched the insanely brilliant green eyes of the boy. Tattoos covered his arms, mostly small comical pictures or things in different languages. His face was strong and very handsome, but riddled with piercings and eyeliner. Even his hands clanked with rings and dark nail polish. A loose Ramones shirt hung form his shoulders and matched his ripped black skinny jeans. He even wore a pair of black high tops, the same as Castiel.
“You must be…” Mr. Barnes paused as he looked down at his roster.
Every student in the room was silent. It was the first time Castiel heard a classroom that quiet before. But they were all taking in this new student. Every weird detail. He had to admit, they weren’t used to this much punk in the area. Castiel was intrigued, but not enough to meet his eyes or say hello.
“Dean Winchester.” The boy stated proudly. “Sorry I was late, the office had me in Cheerleading first period and obviously that was a mistake.”
A light chuckle rang out in the room and things seemed less awkward. Mr. Barnes grinned and Castiel thought he saw him wink at Dean. “Well, take a seat, any seat. I was just about to begin.”
Dean nodded and started down a row beside Castiel. Castiel glued his eyes to the chalkboard as he listened to the footsteps of this mysterious stranger. To his dismay, he heard the seat directly to the right of him squeak. He let his eyes roam over for one second to see Dean staring at him. Castiel cleared his throat and darted his glance back to Mr. Barnes. His cheeks reddened. He hated being stared at, but especially by this new student.

When the bell rang ending first period, Castiel shoved his notebook into his bag and began to stand. He looked up to see Dean standing there inches from his desk. Dean gave him a wide toothy smile and held out his hand.
“Name’s Dean.” His voice was low and it made Castiel shutter a little.
He hated meeting people. His people skills were rusty. The last time he had a friend, was seventh grade and that kid had ditched him because he told him he was weird. Then the social anxiety came, and the doctors appointments and the pills. Now Castiel could handle the anxiety, most of the time.
“Castiel.” He said politely but made no motion to shake his hand.
Dean saw that and let his own hand drop with a shrug. “Religious?”
