Penny was teaching me some first aid like CPR and how to apply bandages on wounds and when it was suitable to call 111 or 999

I listened and already knew what she was telling me due to me being a fire cadet but I didn't say that and I loved relearning nearly everything, helps it stick in your brain better and you never know when you'll need it mind

After that to have a break from first aid she showed me how they got out to sea on the boards and she was postivly suprised I could do it first time

I smiled and got out and Penny said "Add a run onto it"

But first she showed me how to do it and how to rescue someone and she left the life jacket in the water for me to get

I smiled and I was determined and so I did it I added a run and got my board ready and jumped on it at the correct time and swam out to the life jacket in the water mum had placed there and rescued it like she showed me how to

Penny drifted over to me and said "I might have to make this more challenging for you"

I smiled

Penny showed me how to use the whistle and she told me what the differed whistle sounds meant, and what they meant

"What is one short blast of a whistle" Penny said as she quizzed me

"A one whistle blast is to attract a certain member of the public" I replied

"Good good" Penny said as she raised her eyebrow and said "What's two whistle blasts mean?"

"A two whistle blast is to gain attention of another lifeguard" I supply her

"Good quick learner you are" Penny said shocked "So what does three whistle blast mean?"

"A three whistle blast is to indicate that a lifeguard is taking emergency action" I answer

Penny told me to come shore and she passed me my own whistle and she pretended to mess around in the sea and I blew it once and Penny smiled and said "You do know, can't do number two and three to a rescue or if we had another lifeguard here"

"Maybe you will soon mum" I smile

"Your sweet" Penny smiled "Radio's, different to the fire ones"

"I figured mum" I said

"Jones callsign" She said

"The name you are over the radio" I answer

"That wasn't a question what you want it to be?" She looked at me

"Can't it just be Jones?" I say "After all I am the only Jones that go by Jones"

"True so Jones it is" Penny smiled

She showed me how to use a radio in the water and why it was different to a fire radio that we would use in the fire department and I had used many times there

"These Jones are normally used at beaches or large lesuire centires, we only have a beach" Penny said "They are to communicate with the rescue boats, the watch deck and offer emergency services if they are required"

She passed me one and I held it

"So what's your call sign mum?" I ask

"Penny or Pen" She said

"So not Penne like the pasta?" I ask

"Penne like the pasta who?" She asked

"Ellie" I smiled

"Ellie is getting a swimming race at a later date" Penny mumbled

"Can I join?" I ask eagerly

"Of course, you'll probably win" Penny smiled
