Rainy day

A day off. Three words y/n hadn't been able to say in months. Finally y/n had a day off. No work, no college courses that she was getting tired of since she was in her last semester. At the age of 22, y/n was ready for her school career to be over and her work life to go into full swing. She realized that then she would have more days off. But as for now, y/n was just enjoying that she actually had a Friday free to herself.
Y/n started off her morning with the rude awakening of Derek leaving her to the cold elements of his apartment. It was rare that Derek got up before her, she always had early morning classes, but today Derek got up before her. She grumbled a half asleep protest to his departure but it didn't do much.
Half an hour later Derek wandered back into the room and saw y/n back to the peace of sleep and decided he should be a good boyfriend and wake her gently so she could actually enjoy her day off. He could hear the lecture he'd get if he didn't.
"Why didn't you wake me up? Now it's noon and I have like 8 hours to get everything done!"
He could practically roll his eyes at the imaginary lecture.
So he leaned over the bed and rubbed the left cheek of his girlfriends face with the back of his fingers and whispered.
"Y/n. Wake up." He tried "come on. Time to wake up."
He rubbed her face again and then knelt on the bed to lean in closer.
"Babe." He whispered. Her eyes opened and she inhaled deeply. She stretched and looked around.
"Good morning." She groaned
"Good morning. I heard someone has the day off today."
"Mmhm."
"So what are you going to do?" He said turning around to pull a new shirt out of the drawer. Y/n untangled herself from the blankets and got out of bed. She walked over to where Derek was removing his shirt.
"Well I was hoping to spend the day with you." She mumbled as she rested her forehead between his shoulder blades and wrapped her arms around his bare waist.
"You know I can't do that."
Y/n rejected his statement with a series of unintelligible words. She lifted her head from his back and placed a few warm kisses to his left shoulder. Derek stopped putting on his shirt and leaned onto the dresser.
"Y/n..." he warned. He was on to her plan.
"What? Im not doing anything." She laughed
"Uh Huh. I know you. You're not slick."
"Just stay here. Please. For a little bit."
Derek turned as he put on his shirt. Y/n removed herself from his warm exposed skin.
"I can't. I have to meet up with Scott. And then after I have to go to the store."
"I can go to the store today. I don't mind." She smiled as she reattached herself to his now clothed front.
"You don't have to."
"I know. I want to." She leaned up and kissed him deeply. Derek hummed in content as he felt her lips on his. He pulled her in closer. He kissed her back and forth for a minute or so. Y/n dragged her hands under his shirt wishing he never had put it on in the first place. She took in the warmth his skin radiated. She was so compelled to do anything she could to keep his body close to hers and feel his soft skin. His skin was always soft despite the life he lived.
All she wanted was to get back in bed with her boyfriend and lay there in silence. No work, no homework, no stress, just at least half an hour of pure uninterrupted cuddling.
She could imagine the soft blankets holding them together. She could imagine the smell of his freshly washed body cozied right up to her. She could imagine tucking every inch of her body into the zone of his body heat. She needed him. She craved him. And not in a sexual way. Just in a way of vitality. She needed him in order to be at peace.
Derek separated from his girlfriend and gave her a sad look.
"I wish I could stay, trust me, nothing sounds more inviting than a whole day with you, but I still have my responsibility."
"It's just Scott. You can make an excuse."
"I can't." He shook his head. "I'll be home in and hour. And if you go to the store while I am there, it'll be like I never left."
She let out a long and loud sigh as she knew he was right. She walked to the closet and got on an outfit suited for going out. Derek met her at the door and gave her a forehead kiss before he left.

It was about an hour, y/n had come home from the store and Derek was heading home. She put all the groceries away and changed back into her lounge clothes. After she had sat down the door to Derek's apartment had opened and Derek walked back in looking drained. Y/n was sat on their shared bed and scrolling on her phone. Derek shook off his coat and positioned his shoes on the rack.
"Hey how was the meeting?" She asked as he walked over. He crawled onto the bed and hovered over top her. He leaned down for a few kisses which she happily accepted.
"You alright?" She asked once he pulled away from her.
"Yeah. I just... missed you..." he admitted.
"Well I missed you too." Derek had laid down and y/n flipped herself over to put herself on top of him. She rested her face into the crook of his neck and sighed. Derek felt his heart pump in need of her.
He wrapped his arms around her, his hands falling on her hips.
"Mmm, not right now." Y/n rejected knowing exactly where he was going.
"Why not?"
"Because It's my day off and I want to relax."
The couple had gone silent and rain started to patter against the windows.
"I didn't know it was supposed to rain." Y/n tried to make small talk to distract Derek from his suggestive ideas.
"It's supposed to rain all night."
She hummed again and shuffled around. She let out another sigh and traced his arm with her fingertips. The rain made a distant sound, like a whirring of a fan or a drumming of the fingers. They both felt each others body heat and Derek loved the feeling of her soft breath on his neck. Y/n felt the weight of his hands on her sides and tangled her legs with his.
Y/n felt calm. Her chest tingled and her head got fuzzy. Derek felt any sort of stress fall off his muscles and wanted to just grip her tighter. He always felt like he could never get her close enough to him. They both let the peace blanket the atmosphere around them in a pillow of warmth. Anything that could disturb them now wouldn't stand a chance. Y/n moved her hands from his chest to the back of his head to play with the hair on the nape of his neck. She was content. He was content. And nothing could ever ruin what they were experiencing. That was until Derek spoke.
"You know I can't just forget about what I was thinking."
