Happy Halloween y'all!!
What are you guys dressing up as?! Leave a comment! ☺️
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Derek never loved dressing up. He was always so grumpy about it.
"Why do I have to dress up?" I mocked to Lydia in a deep voice as she closed her locker "he's so annoying!"
"To be fair, he lives what everyone cheers over every day and it's not very pretty. It's stressful. And he's probably irritated that people romanticize his trauma."
"Damn." I stopped in the hallway. "I didn't think about that."
"It's okay y/n. I know he doesn't mean to be a jerk about it, and I know he isn't mad at you. You're just like everyone else. You don't realize it till you get it."
"So why are you celebrating when you live it too?"
"Because," she pursed her lips "I always throw the best parties, no matter the occasion."
I laughed and nodded as we both resumed walking to class.
All throughout class I couldn't help but feel my stomach sink everytime I remembered how I was insensitive to Derek. The thought never even crossed my mind but maybe it should have.
"Lydia am I a bad girlfriend?" I asked as she came over to my desk
"What? Where is this coming from?"
"I don't know." I shook my head and looked at my backpack on the floor. "I just feel upset that I didn't think of Derek."
She sighed and shook her head.
"Look, I get it. You feel bad. And you have a right to feel bad, but you know Derek. He's never one to hold onto emotions. As soon as something is resolved it's out of mind for him. So if it makes you feel better, just apologize and move on. You're hurting your own feelings more than his."
"You're right. You're always right." I nodded
"I know right? It's almost like I'm smart or something."
I rolled my eyes at her and pulled her out of the classroom.
"Taking me home today?" I asked stiles as lydia ran up and gave him a kiss.
"Sure. If I must."
"Oh but drop me off at Derek's."
"Ew what? No. I'm not dropping you off so you can go hook up with your sociopathic werewolf."
"Hey!" I socked him in the shoulder and he whimpered
"Derek needs to stop training you. You're scary now."
"Just drop me off at his house."
"Fine!" Stiles gave up and led me to his car."There. Get out. I wanna go home as quickly as possible to bleach my brain of all the things that you guys are gonna do."
"Stiles gross!! Don't think about your friends like that!"
"Yeah yeah. Just get out." His throat clenched like he was going to throw up.
I huffed and got out of the car. I walked into the building and rode the elevator up to the penthouse. I laughed every time I remembered how filthy rich Derek was to afford this... and the entire building. You'd think a guy with cash like that would spend it on sports or girls or something like that. But not my Derek. He barely even has a kitchen table."Derek?" I asked throwing the door open.
"Yeah?" He walked out of an adjacent room reading a book. He kept his eyes on it as I set my book bag down.
I shuffled over to him and lifted his chin from the book.
"Hi." I smiled.
"Hey." He mumbled.
I put both my hands on his face and lifted his face to kiss him on the lips.
"What's up with you?" He asked after i let go.
"What do you mean? I can't kiss my boyfriend."
He set the book down and stuttered
"W-well... I-I mean I don't-like-mind but still... you usually get all cuddly when you're upset."
I picked up an apple through his stuttering but set it down with a sigh when he called my bluff.
"Shit." I whispered.
"Okay. Yup there it is. Come on. Out with it."
"So you know how I always make fun of you for not liking Halloween."
"Yeah?" His eyes fluttered into a kind of irritation.
"Well Lydia brought up a point today when I told her. She said that you might feel like people are romanticizing your life. And your life has been pretty hard. So when she said that, it made me feel bad. Because I've always given you shit for the way you react whenever I bring up Halloween. And I never thought about it that way. So I just feel really bad and like I'm a horrible girlfriend. Because I never even tried to consider why you don't like it. And if that's true, I don't want you to feel like your feelings are invalid. Because they are so important to me. And I'm sorry if I made you feel otherwise."
Derek looked shocked at me. "Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah. I just... have never had anyone speak to me like that before."
"What do you mean?"
"Just so... open about feelings. And apologetic for denying my feelings."
"So I did?"
"Honestly... yeah." He whispered.
I walked over to where he was sitting and knelt down to look him in the eyes.
"Derek. I am sorry about how I've acted. You have every right to be upset with me. And you don't have to forgive me. I just want you to know I'm here to listen."
For a second I thought I saw a crooked smile on Derek's face but in a blink it was gone.
"I love you, pup." Derek sighed and rested his forehead on mine.
"I love you too." He kissed the top of my head and stood up, grabbing me by the waist to move me.
"Where are you going?"
"I got you something."
"What?" I followed him to his room where he had a present sitting on his bed.
"I was gonna wait till tonight in case we went somewhere but I think you should have it now."
He handed me the box and I smiled. I pulled on the ribbon that was tightly wrapped around the box. I pulled the lid off and let out a deep laugh.
"You've gotta be kidding me." I held my stomach as I pulled the present out.
"Put it on." Derek smirked.
I giggled as I put the headband on and I covered it with my hair to make the ears look real.
"Now you're like me." Derek said turning me to a mirror.
"Except you're scarier."
"You think im scary?" He rested his head on my shoulder.
"I think you're scary sometimes, but otherwise you're just a... big fluffy dog."
"I take offense to that."
I laughed and he kissed my cheek quickly.
"You think I'd make a good werewolf?"
"I think... you should stay exactly like you are."
"What if it happens on accident?"
"Then I will be here to help. But let's not think about the what if's. Okay?"
"Okay."
"I think right now you should just keep pretending."
"So you do enjoy the pretending of Halloween."
He shrugged and pressed his lips into a line.
"I think it's all out of pure intention. And I don't blame people for enjoying it. It's all the fun without the pain of living it every day."
"I'm sorry it's so hard Derek." I took off the ears and looked at him
"It's alright. You get used to it after a while."
I moved closer to Derek and wrapped my arms around him. He reciprocated the hug and rested his chin on my shoulder. When I pulled away he grabbed the ears from my hand and placed them back on my head.
"Keep them on. You look cute."
My stomach fluttered and I felt my cheeks heat up. Whenever Derek complimented me it made me giddy still. I just look at him and wonder how someone that attractive can find me attractive. And I know his compliments are genuine because he doesn't give them out often.
Derek started to walk out of the room.
"You think I look cute?" I pouted trying not to smile like an idiot.
"I think you're more than cute."
