The morning was cold. Which means derek would find his girlfriend snuggled up to him with her eyes still closed. He looked down and saw her cheek smushed against his chest. He scoffed in adoration of her and stroked her free cheek.
She grumbled and threw her arm over his waist.
"Come on. I need to get up." He patted her arm in hopes of disturbing her daze. But she still didn't wake up fully. He chuckled and rolled his eyes
"You are the heaviest sleeper known to man when we cuddle." He spoke to her, knowing the intention of her hearing was useless. "Come on."
He nudged her until she let out a complaint in the form of a low groan.
"Well I'm sorry but I need to get up."
She latched onto his waist tighter as he sat up.
"No. You don't get to leave."
"She speaks! It's a miracle!"
She placed her face into his neck and kissed the crook of his neck deeply.
"Now this isn't you trying to use yourself to get me to stay is it?"
"What?! Nooo. I could never." She shook her head. Her voice was still sleepy which almost made it harder for Derek to leave.
"I'm getting up now." He pried her arms from his waist and walked to the bathroom, closing and locking the door behind him.
She groaned and flipped herself over, covering her head with a pillow.
There was twenty minutes of silence where y/n was slowly lulled back to sleep before Derek came back out.
"You gonna wake up anytime soon?" Derek rubbed her back and she sighed. He moved the pillow from her head and she looked up to him.
"Come back in and cuddle." She begged
"Nope. Going to get breakfast."
"Noooooo!" She retaliated grabbing onto his shirt
"Let go! Either that or come with me."
She jumped out of bed and onto dereks back. He groaned but put her legs around his waist and walked out of the room.
"You're so clingy." She hummed and rested her head on him as he walked to the kitchen. He turned on the stove and got breakfast started.
He didn't even have to hold onto her anymore. She just clung like a backpack with her own strength.
"This is so strange." He laughed
"I just wanna cuddle."
"You want to cuddle all the time but you don't have to cling to me like a monkey."
"Yes I do. I have no other choice." Her voice muffled the farther she shoved her face into his neck.
He just rolled his eyes and played his food.
"Okay you gotta get off so I can sit down and eat." She got off and sat down next to him. She rested her head on the table and closed her eyes.
After he was done he tapped her shoulder and she stood. He picked her up and wrapped her around the front of him. He walked slowly to the middle of the room, with the intent of getting to his bed, but stopped when he felt content. He stood with her clinging now to his front and he swayed. He cradled her head with one hand and rubbed her back with the other. He gently shuffled his feet, swaying from side to side to calm her. Her eyes found themselves getting tired and closing. The room was quiet but accompanied by the low humming of the electric accoutrements in the apartment. Y/n tried to align her breathing with dereks.
She fell asleep to the sound of his very existence all the time. Didn't take much stimulation at all for her to drift off. And for Derek it was her presence that calmed him enough to fall asleep. Her slow breathing, her heartbeat only loud enough to be heard by his heightened hearing, her shuffling under the warm blankets. The sound of her life kept his anxiety at bay enough for him to sleep.
So standing there, feeling every inch of her living body coiled around him was something he never knew he needed to feel. Most sentiment wasn't verbal from Derek. Whenever he had a moment like this he never talked about it, never brought it into awareness. Even when he experienced it with someone else, he never said what he was thinking. The words of awe, the poems of love and adoration, the stumbling words of unsure feelings and thoughts all stayed bottled up in his brain. But he remembered them. Every single one. Every spark from physical touch, every thought of love; everything was trapped in his mind never to leave.
He didn't want to speak. He didn't want to disturb the comfortable silence he felt with her wrapped around him. He didn't want to move too fast. He didn't want to disturb her peace. He didn't want to even breathe too hard for it might throw off the energy.
She moved her head from its resting spot and looked at him.
"I love you." She said lowly.
"I love you too." He kissed her forehead and started to pace to the bed.
"Are we going to cuddle?" She asked her head now back in the crook of his neck
"Yes. We are." He gently laid her down, his own body following milliseconds after. He pulled her back into him and kissed her forehead once again. He loved giving forehead kisses. There wasn't any confusion in the reasoning behind a forehead kiss like there was with a lip kiss. Forehead kisses were gentle, full of love, and easy to execute. They were simple but meaningful. And that's what mattered to him.
So he rubbed her skin and pulled her even closer, not letting any air separate their contact.
"Derek..."
"Yes?"
"I know it's a bad time, but I need to pee."
"No." He grumbled tugging her into him
"Please Derek."
"No, you don't get to leave."
She just chuckled and inhaled deeply.
"You smell good." She complimented
"Thank you."
"Let's go to sleep."
"Sounds good."
Derek closed his eyes and rested his chin above y/ns head. He felt her warm skin and his body tingled.
He grazed his fingers up and down her arm feeling the goose bumps starting to raise.
"That's tickles." She whispered.
"Sorry."
"Don't be. It's nice."
"Go to sleep." He shushed her
"I am."
"Stop talking."
"You're annoying."
"You don't listen."
"You are a brute."
"And you're clingy."
"Go to sleep."
"I was."
"Then do."
"Okay. I will."
"Goodnight."
It was silent for a minute then the silence broke
"It's noon." Derek whispered
She socked him in the arm and turned over to fall asleep. He pulled her back to his chest and breathed into her hair.
This was his world. His happy place. And while he needed to get work done. It would always be put on hold when he got the chance to hold her.
