I kinda ran out of inspo for this story but if you guys want more of this story line I'll continue it
~~~~~~"Thank you all for coming out. My parents are unfortunately making me do this speech so let's hope I get through this without making a fool of myself." The crowd laughed and Derek opened a small sheet of paper.
"Welcome, everyone, to the 25th annual celebration of W.A.K.C. We are so happy that you all could make it. We are currently growing as opposed to our last few years where wed lost many important members. We will hold a brief silence for those who have left us in just a moment but I'd like to take a moment to thank those of you who are joining us for the first time." The crowd gave a gentle applause and then silenced again "thank you for being here with us. Now id implore you to take a moment of silence for those who are unable to be with us tonight and those who we will miss very dearly. After a moment of silence I call my mother up to close out our opening announcement."
The room got quiet. I started to feel the awkward air blanket around me. I looked to the floor and waited for something else to happen.
"So how do you think I did?" A quiet voice pulled my eyes back up.
"Oh definitely killed it. Flawless." I nodded
"Uh huh." He glared at me "I sucked didn't I?"
"No! No im serious! You did so much better than I ever could have."
"Well that doesn't seem like a hard accomplishment."
I opened my mouth to retaliate but then I remembered who he was and decided against it.
"You know I wish you didn't know who I was still."
"Why?"
"Because we've only known each other for... what... twenty minutes? And you've already changed how you interact with me because you found out who I am. I have very little real interactions with people because of it."
"Well I am just kinda scared that you or someone else will actually take my head off if I say something wrong."
"Why?"
"Because... well because you're a werewolf."
"We are predators, not murderers."
"Aren't those two things synonymous?"
"No!" He snapped in annoyance, his eyes flashing blue.
I put my head down and whispered an apology
"No no... I am sorry. I shouldn't have shouted."
"It's alright. I just don't really... I don't know very much about this world."
"Your parents didn't tell you about this stuff?"
"They tried. I just didn't listen very well. But if all werewolves look like you then maybe I should pay attention." It was too late to stop what I had said. I slapped my hand over my mouth. "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have said that."
"Don't be sorry. That's a compliment." He almost laughed "but that's what I mean. Don't apologize for saying things just because of who I am. I happen to like the way you speak."
"Well thank you. I will try to be a little more mean." I scrunched my nose at him.
"Hey do you mind if we go somewhere else? I don't really want to be suffocated by a bunch of mothers trying to throw their daughters at me."
"Sure. I don't mind."Third POV
Derek opened the patio door and walked out of the manor with her in tow
"Glad to get out?" Derek said breaking the silence as he saw her relax
Y/n turned and made eye contact with him
"I suppose. Probably best I'm not in there."
"Why's that?" He asked taking a seat next to the girl of tule and silk
"Because I'm a mess... always... and I ruin things... clearly," she chuckled sitting on a small concrete bench "I'm never normally allowed to go to these things but my mom was sick so I had to fill in."
Derek just nodded and let out a light chuckle
"What is so funny?" Y/n asked crossed her arms and pouted
"Nothing nothing... just... never seen a politicians daughter so inept of social cues and conversationalist tactics." He smiled
"Are you calling me incompetent?" Y/n asked turning to him
"What? No no no!" He rhetorically said "never."
"You are! You totally are!" She scoffed
"I just- what's a girl like you gotta do to learn?"
"Probably take a million etiquette lessons and get mortally embarrassed." Y/n thought
"I'm sure that'll do the trick." He said and stood offering his hand
Y/n looked at it
"What's this?" She asked
"We are going to get that mortally embarrassed part done. You're gonna dance with me."
"No, no absolutely not!"
"Why not?" He asked taking
"Because I'm scared!" Y/n said back
"Of what? Of dancing? I know you've got two left feet but I can make it work." Derek comforted
"No...of you." She whispered and then booked it in her heels in the other direction.
Derek took off after her, his senses kicking in.
"Y/n! Come on! Don't be like this!" He nearly growled. He didn't like chasing women, especially ones who should be chasing him.
Y/n kept going but was then cornered.
"Why are you scared of me?" He asked not even out of breath
"Because you're you."
"What does that even mean?!" He questioned, frustrated by having to beg for scraps of an explanation
"You're YOU! You're Derek hale. Oldest son of Laura Hale. Werewolf and heir to the entire line of Hale everything. Not only are you strong because you're a werewolf but you're overpowered because of your lineage. You could own my soul if you wanted to." She explained
"Is that all you see me as?" He asked slightly hurt
"I can't get passed it." Y/n said
"Why not?!"
"Because I just CANT! Why do you even care so much?!"
"Because for ONCE, I actually had a girl who didn't treat me like a prince. A girl I actually wanted to treat me different. And now that's ruined too." He vented.
Y/n paused and she sighed
"You don't even know me." She shook her head
"But can't I get to know you?" He nearly begged
"Am I really that intriguing to you?" Y/n questioned, raising her brow
"Of course you are." He exasperated
"How do you know that?"
"Because you're weird!" He laughed
"That's not a compliment." Y/n scoffed
"No i-I like it. Everyone else tries to impress me. But you... it's just you... I like that."
Y/n softened
"Fine... you get one dance. But that's all my soul can take." She said giving him her hand
"Deal."They got into the ballroom and y/n got into position.
They slowly started to dance with the rest of the crowd and she cleared her throat
"What does WAKC stand for?" She asked trying to stir up a conversation about his speech earlier
"Werewolf Allyship and Kinship Confederation."
"And what does it do?"
"Werewolves and allies alike join in monthly meetings and greetings in order to promote unity and peace to werewolves and their allies." He explained to which y/n nodded
"That's cool... I guess."
"Yes. It is. We've been successfully running it for over 40 years now." He nodded back
The dance ended in a bow to which y/n looked up and watched Derek's face which seemed to watch her.
Derek pulled her up and let her stand.
"That was... not nearly as embarrassing as I'd expected." Y/n said brushing her dress off
"No... you were actually quite graceful." Derek smiled down at her.
They then left the party again and walked around to talk for a while.Hours went on and y/n and Derek got along well. They shared interests and other things about their lives.
When the night ended, they were back on the concrete bench looking at each other.
"Okay confession time." Y/n said "I've... never driven a car before."
"I've eaten oysters twice and hated it both times." Derek replied back promptly
"I hate steak." Y/n grimaced
"Oh now that's just wrong," Derek shook his head
"Hey!" Y/n smacked him "this is supposed to be a judgment free confession."
She stood up ready to leave but he stopped her
"Okay okay sorry."
"Now I need a good one from you to make it up." She joked
"I've never been in love." He quietly admitted to which y/ns eyes widened and she looked over at him
"Really?" She asked
He nodded and looked down at the grass between his feet.
"I didn't want to come to this thing-" Y/n admitted back
"Neither did I." He scoffed as he interjected
"-But I'm glad I did." Y/n said firmer as she placed her hand on hisFirst POV
Derek looked down at our hands and looked back up at me with a hopeful look
"If my mom hadn't forced me to come, I never would have met you." I laughed and sat back down on the bench
"Well then my night wouldn't have been half as entertaining as it has been." He nodded with slight sarcasm lacing his words
I knew he wanted to admit he was having fun but his bitterness withheld his smile.
"So does this mean you dont hate me like you said you did?"
"I wouldn't go that far." He huffed and shoved his hands in his pockets
"Would you go far enough to say that if I happened to show up to another party hosted by your family that you might just save a dance for me?"
"I may save a dance for you." He looked at the sky and then back at me "if you can answer this question honestly."
"Okay."
"Are you still scared of me?"I looked into his eyes, his blue grey eyes and I cold confidently say
"No." I whispered and gathered his reaction to that confession
"Good." He nodded
"So does this mean I'll get to see you again sometime?" I asked hope slipping through my teeth
"Yeah. It does."
