While young, Clementine always knew more than she allowed her group to know. She made a point to never go into detail regarding her life before their group. She never explained her past or the things she had seen or conquered. While she treasured the view the group held of her, she knew the less she shared, the better.

Maybe that was why she refused to speak up when she saw the sparks fly whenever certain members of the group looked at each other.

Or maybe it was because it was more fun that way.

It didn't take the child long to see the way that her companions looked at each other; the tenderness in their eyes, the joy in their smiles.

It started with Jane and the way she stood guard each night. At first, Luke would approach her with some warm water, assuring her that she needed to stay warm. Slowly it became a nightly event; Luke bringing her something to drink and them chatting until the sun rose. They shared. Clem could see the smile working onto Jane's face whenever he entered a room. She could see the way Luke grinned whenever she left to start her shift. They, whether they chose to admit it or not, were gleeful about each other.

Then it switched to Bonnie and Mike. They mainly spent their time together when they were on missions to collect food or supplies. Gradually, they offered to work together, enjoying the company and protection the other provided. They trusted each other. Confided in one another.

So it was clear that all they needed now was help getting together.

It was bordering on morning in their new-found campground, the sky still dark in exhaustion that hung over the group. Since their new home was mainly outdoors the fire crackled at almost all hours of the day, but every night was when it burned brightest. Finding sleep as no longer a possibility, Clementine slipped out of the small tent she shared with the other women of the group and watched as Luke chucked some more firewood into the rapidly diminishing fire.

Clementine couldn't help the small grin that worked onto her face as she strode forwards, nodding towards the one she felt closest to in the group. While Kenny and her had a past and a connection that out spent the others, he had grown more distant since the passing of Sarita. Less sociable. Considering this, Luke had been the one she would talk the most frequently to. He wasn't as needy or as innocent as others. He knew what he was doing. He was strong. He looked out for her. All qualities she admired.

The feeling was mutual as the male struck a smile watching her draw closer. "Hiya Clem," He hushed. "Why are you out here so late?"

She could feel her shoulders shrug. "Can't sleep." She couldn't help her eyes as they drifted to the edge of their ground, watching as Jane worked on cleaning the edge of one of her knives. "How's watch going?"

One side of Luke's lips curled upon spotting the cheeky smirk fading on the child's face. Playfully, he tapped the bill of her cap allowing it to pop lower over her face.

"Well, that's how it's going."

"Really?" Adjusting her cap and giggling happily, Clementine feel the small hint of excitement at the idea of the two of them being happy together. In a world so coated with darkness and the seeds of bitterness, seeing two people genuinely happy to be around each other was beautiful. It reminded her of the way Kenny would smile at Katjaa before Duck had been bitten; with glee and admiration.

For Clem, however, it was even more beautiful to get involved.

Luke grinned down at her. He couldn't help it. The childlike fascination she had in the joy him and Jane shared reminded him of the world prior to chaos and disarray. A world of innocence. Where relationships were treasured rather than chores.
