She was growing like a flower through a bushel of weeds. She was by far the nicest bit of nature in their garden. The brightest too. Really, if he was being honest, he was the only flower they had.

As his mind wandered, Kenny could feel the log he was sitting on shift with the addition of weight beside him. Rather quickly a voice filled his ears, immediately making him smile.

"Are you warm?" Clementine asked, allowing her breath to puff into a cloud before her lips.

Kenny smiled, scratching his beard absent-mindedly. "Yeah," He breathed, tearing his gaze only to smile at the child by his side. It wasn't a secret to anyone in their group that Kenny increasingly saw Clem as his own child. Once upon a time she felt like nothing more than a member of their group. Now, watching her grow, watching her change, watching her still remain caring for those close to her; it made him realize just how strong their connection had become.

Time no longer seemed to exist in their world. It passed day by day without much care. Holidays and celebrations were ignored and gradually forgotten.

But in that moment, staring at her, time became all too real.

"Clem, how old are you?"

Clementine blinked in surprise at the question, sitting up straighter in her seat as she turned to her side to stare back at him. He seemed genuine given in the curious and concerned gaze he bore down at her with.

"12." She said. Her golden hues turned towards the fire before her. "I think." Her voice was soft as she concluded her thought, clearing her throat and pressing her hands nervously into her lap.

She thought. Somehow, to Kenny, that was the most crushing part about that entire entrance.

"When's your birthday, Clem?" He questioned, his eyes focusing on the fire despite posing the question her way.

Her gaze too, locked onto the fire in front of her, refused to leave even as he spoke more.

That was a good question.

Of course she remembered the date - that she would never be able to forget - however, when it was in relation to where they were and when they existed, she had no idea. She didn't know what day it was or what month it was. She didn't know how many days had passed or where they sat in a calendar year. How many of her birthdays had passed? How old had she become? Whenever anyone in their group had kept track of the passing of time, it was never her. Now, it was a mystery. Months and days meant nothing in their world anymore. A date would do nothing.

"It's in the springtime." Clem said, nodding to herself. That was the most accurate answer she could give nowadays. "Right after the snow melts."

"Really?"

Clementine nodded. "I remember." The last time she had been asked about her birthday, even the last time she could tell it accurately, was back when she had been taken away by a stranger when under Lee's care. Back then, her birthday had passed 9 days previous. She hadn't cried or felt sad by the lack of gifts. She hadn't even felt particularly disappointed. Truthfully, all she had wanted for her birthday was to find her parents.
