"Kenny! Watch it!" Clementine lunged forwards to where AJ had been sitting on a rock, scooping him into her arms as quickly as possible.

Kenny grunted as he swung his axe, nailing a walker perfectly in the side of the head, sending it crumpling to the ground. "I got 'em. Let's keep going." He turned, finally facing the two. He tossed his weapon on the ground, arms opening. "Give me AJ. You take the weapon."

Her grip, momentarily, tightened on the toddler. "Why?"

"I don't want you falling behind." He said softly, tearing the child from her arms without bothering to wait for acceptance. "I'll take care of him. Just defend yourself." Her brows furrowed in discontent, watching as the adult spun and started down the path. "Please, stay close."

Without arguing, she lifted the bloodied weapon off the ground and followed. His first request, however, she wasn't sure if she could keep. Over time she had learned that it wasn't easy to only defend oneself, especially not if they were as emotionally attached to others like she was.

For Kenny and AJ, she would gladly risk her life without a second thought. In an instant, she would give up herself for them, it wasn't even a question. They were her world, and if either one of them dared to leave it, she knew she wouldn't be able to go on.

Clementine kept close behind the two, her heels stomping in quick succession with Kenny's. Despite carrying a child, he made good pace, and kept Clem constantly on the move.

Her eyes darted to either side of their path, keeping her eyes out for any sign of threat she would need to smack down before they had a chance to snatch her or either of the two in front of her.

Gurgled groans sounded all around them. It wasn't a surprise given the forest they were darting through, hoping to find safe ground to camp in.

Except, one got bold. One got accurate.

Clementine hardly had a chance to react when a walker leapt out at their feet, causing them to jump in horror. When they glanced up, Clementine had only a millisecond to react as a walker, a taller one, swept in at the two before her.

In the instant she recognized what was going on, she leapt forwards, throwing the axe between the walker and Kenny, blocking any potential bites. She pounced behind her weapon, ready to use the handle to push the beast off before slamming metal through it.

But it was fast. Too fast.

The instant Clementine threw herself behind her weapon enough to swing, the walker pushed her weapon low enough to dip in, using its teeth to grip onto the flesh of her neck.

The girl wailed, ripping the beast off and slamming her axe into its head. She kicked its lifeless corpse off her weapon before throwing herself forwards, hoping to catch up with the others as quickly as possible.

It wasn't until they were safely out of the brush and slowly emerging onto a dusty, beaten down highway, did Clementine reach up to touch her suddenly burning neck.

It was warm. And wet.

"Clementine?"

No.

The events of what had happened earlier came flooding back, having been pushed aside thanks to her adrenaline. She removed her hand, staring down at the limb now covered in her own blood, tinting her skin to a haunting purple in the moonlight.
