"This is stupid."

"More stupid than playing another game of war?"

Violet hesitated, considering Louis' statement. Then, she sighed. "You have a point." She was the one, after all, who'd been complaining about their lack of entertainment.

Since Clementine and AJ joined them, Ericson was experiencing a rare moment of peace. Unbeknownst to the other Ericson kids, Delta and the raiders had eased off temporarily, enabling them to stock up greedily on food, firewood, and resources. Clem and AJ had been welcomed with open arms, and now had the hang of Ericson's routines. Everything at Ericson was rosy and fine. That was, except for the boredom.

That was probably why one night, through sly glances and secret stares, and after the kids had all been sent to bed, the teens gathered around the still-roaring fire, ready to engage in a game they hadn't played in forever: spin the bottle.

"Why spin the bottle?" Aasim asked, plopping himself down on a log. He seemed slow and hesitant, but perked seeing Ruby take her seat beside him. From across the fire, Mitch smirked. Aasim was so predictable.

Violet shrugged. "Because we're limited on supplies, I guess."

"And because Louis wants gossip." Clem hushed, poking Aasim's arm playfully as she passed by. Aasim smirked. Clementine had all their personalities nailed, even though she'd only been there for a matter of weeks.

"Hey, there's no shame in that." Louis countered.

There was, but none of them told him as much.

Once everyone was seated, Louis cleared his throat, standing from the half-broken plastic lawn chair he was sitting on. Beside him — on the only other chair — was Violet. To their left sat Mitch and Brody on opposing ends of a log, not out of fear but rather respect for one another. They weren't close, and they didn't try to seem like it. Luckily for them, Omar plopped himself between them, relinquishing the awkwardness.

Beside them sat Aasim and Ruby, chattering happily. Then, on a log between theirs and Violet's chair sat Clementine and Marlon. Clem smiled as Marlon approached, sliding over and making room for him. She greeted him cheerily, her smile warm and bright. To Marlon, it felt warmer than the fire.

"Let's get this started!" Louis said, eagerly rubbing his hands together. "Finally we got to change things up a bit."

"This seems like a bad idea," Brody said, arms crossed and hesitant.

"It's going to be fun. It's a chance for us to bond."

Violet snorted. "Your idea of bonding isn't the same as mine, Louis."

Louis scrunched his nose, feigning offence. "Fine. Since you're so against this Violet, why don't you start us off." He said, jetting the bottle in her direction. "Then, you can show everyone that this is going to be a fun game."

Violet rolled her eyes, but accepted nonetheless. As much as she teased Louis, it was an exciting twist from the boring card games they were all so used to. Without batting an eye, Violet set the bottle on the dirt ground — the same open space beside the fire — and spun.
