"Where's Clementine?"Violet withheld the desire to roll her eyes, despite it being unbearably strong. "I think she was going to find Marlon to ask about the dinner schedule." The blonde had long since gotten used to Louis asking about Clem's whereabouts — the meanings behind them were all obvious — yet still, every time she rolled her eyes at his obliviousness.
"Cool," Louis claimed passively, nodding his head and wandering backwards as if the question was casual.
Violet glanced up from the comic she was reading, staring at the teen just over the pages of her book. They locked eyes, both acknowledging that they knew what was going on.
Tossing in the towel of attempting to look cool, Louis swivelled and darted in the direction of Marlon's office.
Violet scoffed and smirked. "Figures."
Louis didn't hesitate as he darted down Ericson's halls. He gave meek waves and nods toward any teens he passed by, not paying mind to any of them. They weren't the one he was looking for, after all. He already knew where she would be.
As he turned the corner, Marlon's door in his sights, his speedy walking slowed. Normally, Marlon's door was either closed or wide open, never between. As Louis approached, there it sat, creaked open only slightly.
Louis tried to shake the feeling, dismissing his pause as overreacting. For all he knew, the wind could've nudged the door closed, or Marlon went to throw it shut but it didn't close all the way as he was too lost in thought to notice.
As Louis drew closer, something else sounded the alarm bells in his head: faint growling.
Rosie.
Louis's brows pressed, confused as to why Rosie would be inside Marlon's office growling at anyone. With Marlon, Rosie could be calmed with a wave of his hand. Why was she growling? And at what?
Or, at who?
Hesitantly, a hand wavering over the knife on his hip just in case, he slowly pushed the door open and slipped inside.
Before him stood Clementine, backed up against one of the walls with Rosie gnashing her teeth a few paces before her. Clementine's eyes were wide, her skin was pale, and her body rigid in fear.
"Clem?"
The voice shot Clementine's gaze upward, desperately looking at the teen in the door frame. The instant his soft gaze hit her own, she knew help had arrived. "Please help me," she breathed, her shaking audible through her breath. "She won't leave me alone."
Louis nodded, his gaze never leaving hers even as he drew closer. "Are you okay?" He asked. Watching as her gaze snapped down to Rosie, continuing to draw closer, Louis spoke again. "Clem, did she hurt you?"
"Please just get her away," she begged, her voice slightly louder than before. The change in volume stopped the dog in her tracks. Her growling heightened, as did Clementine's terror. "What if she kills me?"
"I won't let that happen," Louis hushed, his brows pressed in agony. It broke his heart seeing the girl in this state. It broke his heart that she thought she was going to die in front of him. Louis would've done anything to prevent her from losing her life in general, but especially in that moment.
