It was weird for Clementine to join a new group to begin with. She had been so used to the world and the people she so often spent time with.

It was even weirder when she learned she wasn't the only child in the group.

He was about her height, maybe only slightly taller. He had shaggy brown hair and an oddly coloured orange shirt. He was nice to her, and made himself available when the rest of his group thought she was nothing more than a burden.

His name? That was Luke

Then there was Sarah. She was quiet. Not a talkative type. She tended to be more awkward and more-often-than-not kept to herself. She rarely tried to speak with Clem if she could help it, unsure of what the stranger had brought into the safe enclosure of her group.

Out of the three of them, it was no secret that Luke and Clementine were the closest. Luke was a risk-taker and the mystery behind their new teammate was exciting. Intriguing. He wasn't afraid to talk about what she had seen or done. Who or why she had killed. What she had caused or how she was broken. It didn't phase him. To Luke, she was interesting and captivating in a way he had yet to see from anyone else.

Of course, what intrigued him horrified others.

The stories rapidly began to circulate amongst the group. Even more so once they found their way to the ski lodge and Clementine was able to reunite with her old companion; Kenny. The times she had tossed an axe through someone's eye or needed to shoot her father-figure in the forehead before he could turn scarred the rest of the group and painted a blood-thirsty image of the child that was horribly false. To them, they didn't care. They saw her as a threat.

But Luke didn't.

It was a winter-boarding-on-spring day and as per usual the group was at its normal high-tension level.

While Clementine was normally ignored by the group and simply dismissed with disapproving looks, today was different. It went from the normal hesitant gases that followed her around the room to outcries.

"Clem, don't."

Her hand paused, turning to the source of the voice and removing her attention from the fire pit she was about to start. She raised an eyebrow. "Uhm, what?"

"I said don't." Rebecca's voice was stern and sharp. Forceful. Even with a hint of fear dwelling within.

Clementine blinked in surprise, glancing down at the fire stoke in her hands before glancing back at the mother-to-be. "Why?"

Rebecca's mouth pursed in irritation at her disobedience. The fact that she wouldn't obey a command in an instant. "We'll get someone else to do it. Put it down. Leave it."

Clementine could feel her eyes squint the more Rebecca spoke, studying her for reasoning in her odd behaviour. "It's cold." She stated abruptly, dismissing any chance of being polite and courteous. "I just want to start a fire, I've done it before." As she spoke she flicked her wrist, a shrug working its way through her joints and muscles.

Upon the movements Rebecca flinched back, her shoulders tensing in comparison to the loosening of the child before her. "Drop it!" She was more forceful and loud, cutting off the last beat of Clem's sentence as she bellowed.
