"Branch off!"

"Are you joking?!"

Clementine grunted, slamming her axe into a walker's skull, squinting at the blood that spurted from the wound. With a grunt she forced her heel into its chest, forcing it off her blade and onto the ground. "No! We need to split up!"

"That's a--" the male paused grunting as he swung his bat through a reanimated skull. Scoffing, he whipped around to face the girl. "Horrible plan!"

"Do we have any other choice?" She spat, swinging her axe over her shoulder, nailing another in the forehead. She jetted her foot behind her, her heel violently colliding with the monster's groin, forcing it to the ground. "They're all over us. We need to act!"

Javi gave a moment of pause, taking a few steps back from the impending swarm. Finally, with a panicked and defeated groan, he spoke. "Fine!"

Clementine, swatting another beast off her, allowed herself meet the gaze of the adult a few feet to her left. His gaze was soft and panicked despite the underlying annoyance the swarm gave. "Be safe."

The teen bit down on her lip, a panic fluttering to her surface. "You too."

The two, plowing through walkers in their paths, darted in separate directions. After a matter of minutes, Clementine already feeling her lungs heave, she fumbled to a halt. She desperately propped herself against a tree to regain her composure, her eyes madly scanned the darkening surroundings. The sun was looming dangerously close to the horizon. In a matter of minutes they would be thrust into darkness: a dangerous time to be alone in walker-infested woods. Especially if your partner was lost within them.

She groaned as she took a knee, a tactic that allowed her to be alert enough to dash if a threat emerged. How long should she to wait for Javier? How long until she should leave to look for him? Or were they to not look for one another and instead leave and meet back in New Richmond?

She stood upright once more, watching the skyline drink in the last of the evening's sun. The sky fell deeper into darkness, and the panic Clementine felt in her chest only heightened. The clock was ticking, and the sooner she found Javi, the better. The last thing she wanted was to lose another team member.

She took a deep breath, starting back in the direction she came from. She swayed her direction slightly, hoping to be far enough away from their original location that walkers wouldn't be an issue, but close enough so that she could find the male again.

Fear continued to settle in her bones, the looming darkness thickening with each passing second. She needed to find Javi, and she needed to find him soon. Her breathing spiked, allowing her panicked gasps to flutter into the thick, chilled air.

Where was he? She couldn't call for him as that would attract the attention of the very walkers they had just escaped. All she could do was run, and search, and listen.

What if she didn't find him? What if she went back to New Richmond, and he wasn't there either? What if he was gone? Her panicked breathing heightened as the thoughts swarmed her. She vividly remembered being thrust into this very dilemma too many times: the ice lake, AJ's birth, being taken by that guy in Savannah. All of those times they had been split up, and every time only ended in tragedy. She could only pray this wouldn't be a repeat of that but frankly, she couldn't see any other outcome.
