Author's Note: There isn't enough space to make them completely fall in love, but I hope the mushiness is still enough :))

There was something about her sunken eyes, the way it seemed as if she had no life in her left to give, that Clementine could instantly recognize. She, after all, was right there with her."Put down the gun," Clementine said, hands lifted, staring down the barrel. "We aren't' here to harm."
A blonde, stone-faced, had her gun aimed point-blank at Clem's forehead. A stranger approaching Ericson property wasn't something anyone at the school enjoyed, let alone two. She didn't know who to trust, and frankly she didn't care.
What she didn't realize was that because of her position, Clementine could see the injuries on her arm: the scars of internal pain, and a wound that had never healed.
"Get back, then." She spat. "What are your names?"
"Clementine, and this is AJ." Clem said, gesturing to the child behind her. "We aren't here to cause harm. We were just scouting for a place to stay. We can leave. We didn't know there was anything out here."
The blonde said nothing, only hesitated with her finger on the trigger. They stood in silence, wavering on whether she would make a move, when the rattling of a gate sounded behind her.
"Violet!" A male voice scoffed. "Put the gun down!"
The sound of footsteps darting toward them sent a chill up Clementine's spine. Whether the girl — Violet apparently being her name — was going to shoot was unknown. In all honesty, Clementine didn't care if she was killed. Her only wish was that AJ was spared.
Two men approached the site, one standing directly before the girl's gun, the other moving closer toward their visitors. "I'm sorry about her," he claimed. His hair was blonde, form-fitted into a mullet. Clem could tell simply by the way he spoke that he was in charge. "We don't mean harm either."
Clementine lowered her hands. "We can leave if you guys don't want us here. We didn't know this was claimed property."
"Please," Marlon waved his hand. "We could use a few extra hands."
Clementine remained still, her expression cold and stern.
"If you guys want a place to stay, as long as you're willing to put in some work, we can give you a roof."
At that, Clementine's shifted. She nodded. It was exactly what they wanted. No, it was what they needed. Given by the rattled state of their friend, Clem assumed that it was what Violet needed too — company. "Deal." She said.
Within the hour, Clem and AJ were moved in. They didn't have a lot, after all. They each had one backpack, and AJ's was minuscule due to his size. Their 'unpacking' consisted of dropping their bags off in their new shared room.
Marlon, as he had introduced himself, said that before they could be fed, they needed to prove that they were willing to work. "Move some gardening equipment from by the gardening shed to the front lawn." He said. "Once that's done, you each get a bowl."
Clementine glanced down, taking in AJ's small frame. He wasn't going to be able to carry a lot. Hell, neither would she. She knew the state her body was in: ever weakening hell. But she also knew she wasn't about to get any better without food.
