One. Solid. Gunshot.
No rhyme or reason, simply out of panic and desperation.
Falling to the ground and landing on top of the snow like a fallen rose, Clementine's crimson blood began to stain the pure white that rested beneath her.
"What the hell is going on out here?!" Kenny screamed, slamming the door open and storming outside, pure anger flooding his veins. "What the hell was tha...J-Jesus Christ!" The male's eyes locked onto the little girl limp against the cold snow. Her eyes were open, but they were fading for everyone to see.
He was stuck. He couldn't move. He was slowly watching the little girl that had always been there for him die. He was watching her wither away. She really was a delicate rose. Who would even dare to harm her?
"What's going on?" A gruff voice commented, thumping as loud footsteps radiating off of the earth with each step Lee Everett took. He rubbed his forehead sheepishly, just awakening from his long deserved sleep--even if it was cut short. "AJ is--" Much like his companion, Lee froze. "Oh god..." He breathed, slinking forwards closer to his Clementine. Her voice hitched, his body heaved with discomfort. He was staring at the little girl he had sworn to protect, promised to take care of, and now she was laying against dirt with a whole in her chest.
"You..." Kenny breathed, his eyes not flickering from her form. He needed to move forwards, he needed to reach down and help her, keep her warm somehow. But his feet were nailed to the ground with appal.
"Clementine!" Lee finally managed to wail, kneeling in front of the innocent. Using his trembling fingers to disjoint his coat from his body, he wrapped the child in it tightly, listening to the faint groan escaping her lips.
She was alive. Barely, but she was alive.
Glancing up to his astonished partner, he gave a solemn nod.
The small jolt of the head was all Kenny needed to pour all the words he had been thinking tumbling out. "You....you fucker!" Kenny snarled, storming forwards towards the Russian with thunder piercing the ground wherever he walked. "You stupid Ruskie! What the in fuck's name were you thinking?!"
"Clementine?" Luke groaned, his gruff voice entering the air as he stepped out of their small house. Hearing all the screaming and wailing over the girl's name caused the male to worry about the child. "C-Clementine! Jesus Christ!" He jumped in shock, ushering forwards and kneeling down before the child of his own. Lee gently sat up one end of her body while Luke held up the other.
"We need to get her medical attention."
"I think we might have a first aid kit inside..." Luke muttered, flinging to his feet and rushing towards the doorway.
"I swear to God I'll kill you. If she dies I'll rip your damn head off!"
"What if she's not dead? She seems to be breathing." Bonnie commented softly, taking Luke's place next to the girl and feeling her pulse, placing her ear against the child's neck.
"Then I'll still kill the son of a bitch." He growled, grabbing the armed male's collar and stomping his gun to the ground using his boot. "This is a lose lose situation for you, asshole."
Arvo frowned, quivering in his boots despite wanting to stand his ground. He couldn't let this male walk all over him, although his mind was screaming that he had done something wrong.
"Here! Here!" Luke gasped, kicking the door down as he barrelled back outside, slamming down against the dirt and snapping open the kit.
"We need to get her inside." Lee growled, placing a hand against the girl's back and pushing her into a siting position, Bonnie helping with her other side.
"Agreed. We should at least get her outta this wind."
Gathering the child in his arms, Lee started back towards the little cabin, Luke on his tail and Bonnie at the other side of the Clem. Once inside, he rested her against the small tattered couch and ripped open the first aid kit.
"It's okay Lee, I got this. You just work on calming her down whenever she wakes up. She'll still probably be in shock." Luke mumbled, popping open some disinfectant and applying a few drops to the wound. Luckily, because Clementine was still out of it, she couldn't yell and screech from the pain. Lee noted, however, that her eyes would twitch with every small pinch against her skin.
"Okay, we just need to wrap this up." Luke mumbled, grabbing some of the gauze and winding it around and over her shoulder.
"Do you think she'll be able to bounce back from this?" Bonnie asked, watching the child with a frown.
With a sudden slam ending Bonnie's question before it could be answered, Kenny sauntered into the room with loud, sharp thuds and stopped beside the adored child. His face immediately softened upon seeing her weak figure being wrapped up by bands of medical tape. "How is she?" He breathed.
"Where's Arvo?" Bonnie asked, turning to him with a piercing gaze.
"That hunk of trash is still outside."
Averting her gaze to the window, she watched as Arvo crawled around against the dirt floor, every visible inch of his body covered in bruises and cuts. "Jesus Kenny!" Bonnie darted out of the room and rushed to the kid's side, while Kenny took her spot next to the sleeping child.
"Clearly she doesn't understand what priories are." He mumbled, using a finger to play with Clementine's raven hair.
As the gauze was finally sealed in place, a small groan started to emerge from the child's pale lips. As time passed, it grew louder and louder. Until finally it ended in a gasp as her golden eyes flew open.
"Clementine!" Lee gasped softly, looming over her. "Clem, are you okay? Can you hear me?"
Her pale body quivered. "L-Lee? Where am I?"
"You're in a cabin. That damn ruskie shot ya."
"It's all patched up now, you'll be okay." Luke assured, placing a hand against the child's arm, forcing her a small smile.
Studying all of them quietly, she slowly pushed herself up to a sitting position. In sync, all her guardians immediately warned her and requested that she lay back down. But instead, she learned forwards and wrapped her arms around Lee, squeezing him as tightly as she could with her injury. "Thank you guys." She mumbled sadly, ducking her head deeper into Lee's shoulder.
Her body gave small shivers just as predicted, her body was going into shock to help numb the pain. Lee wrapped his arms tightly around her body, keeping her close. Making sure she was kept her warm and safe. Kenny gently took one of her little hands in his own, creating a small squeeze from Clementine. Luke simply rubbed her arm, hoping that the small motion would keep the child calm. Clementine would always be their number one priority.
"I love you guys."
