"Can you guys both just knock it off? Christ, drop it already."

"We're not going to, Nick." Pete's voice, firm and bitter, easily resonated through the small cabin. His voice was by far the most powerful out of their group, and it was clear as to why he was deemed the group's 'leader'. "We need to have this conversation."

"Do we? Seriously? Now?"

"Nick," Luke, stepping in and waving a cautious hand, shot his best friend a hesitant look, one tinted with concern. "Come on man, let's just talk and be done, okay?"

"We could already be done if you guys weren't being fuckwits."

Clementine, sitting just outside of the kitchen, felt her eyes widen. In her time since the apocalypse began she had heard plenty of strange words, especially curse words. But that one was new.

"Oh cut the shit, Nick." Pete spat. "Grow up and have an actual conversation with us."

Nick's arms crossed, clearly a display of disapproving surrender, yet he allowed them to continue.

"Look," Pete started, rubbing at his sore forehead. "I get that the situation is iffy, but everyone needs to suck it up and deal with it."

"I don't think she should be here." Nick countered, not hiding the rage in his voice. "We have no idea if that's actually a dog bite she has and you want to risk it?" His arms were thrown at his sides. "You guys are fucking morons."

It had been only an hour or so since Clementine had escaped the group's now-busted tool shed, emerging victorious after a fight with a walker. Luke and Pete had helped escort the child inside while the others, clearly skeptical or downright livid, dispersed.

"Zip it." Pete countered, feeling rage of his own begin to bubble over.

"I'm not the only one pissed about this, so I don't get why you're on my ass." He spat, his slit eyes still able to shoot daggers. "I can name a handful of people in this lodge that want this as little as me."

"We're talking to you for a reason, man." Luke claimed, his voice the only calm one emerging in the room. "We know you've been through this before. That's why we want to talk."

"Well I've heard it all."

"Christ Nick, can you grow up and let us talk for a second?" Pete grumbled.

"No. I don't need to hear the same crap from you shitbags that I've heard before." He scowled. "It doesn't change anything. It always ends the same."

Clementine's eyes widened again. There was another one.

"Can you try to at least be nice to her?" Luke pleaded, stepping in front of Pete with an arm extended, silently pleading for him to hold fire. "I get why you don't like this, and we know that the others don't either, but can you put on a face and just deal with it? For now?"

Nick hesitated, arms crossed once more, scoffing. "If someone gets killed because of her, it's on your hands." Without a shred of remorse, he vanished from the kitchen, anger in his every step.
