"Rebecca and Sarah should stay back." Luke claimed, hands clenched to fists at his sides.

Nick, his walking partner on the trek to Carver's camp, turned to study the male's expression. "They can't stay back by themselves." He began, knowing Luke already agreed. "If anything happens, Sarah won't fight back and Rebecca can't. Someone should stay with them."

Luke squinted, surveying their small group. Carlos and Alvin were their only options, and both came with baggage. Carlos had a daughter who needed him, as there was no way she'd ever survive on her own. But Carlos, too, had a child, as well as a wife carrying said child.

"I think Carlos should stay," Luke mused, scratching at his chin. "Carlos is a doctor. He's an asset." His brow furrowed at the statement, his chest instantly slammed with guilt. "If anything were to happen to us, he needs to stay alive. If anything, for Rebecca."

Nick allowed a gentle sigh to escape his nose. "I hate that you're right."

The group was almost a day into their walk and, if Luke remembered correctly, they had around half an hour to go until they hit the man-made path leading to Carver's warehouse. Time to formulate a plan was running low, as once they hit the vicinity, they'd need to act before being spotted and eliminated.

Their time to hash out a plan was dangerously low, and Luke, deep down, knew they needed to start the conversation now.

"I think Carlos, Rebecca and Sarah should stay back." He stated louder, hoping to catch the group's. Alvin and Carlos, leading the group, stopped and turned given the statement. Rebecca and Sarah, coming up behind them, did the same.

Luke and Nick, coming up the rear, both stopped to read expressions. While Sarah wore an expression of shock, Rebecca's remained neutral, almost understanding dare he say.

"What?" Sarah breathed. Luke couldn't tell given her tone if she was hurt or relieved.

"The risk for Rebecca going in is too high," Luke began, arms crossed firmly. "And Carlos should stay with her because she needs a doctor."

Silence, hesitation, uncertainty.

"And Sarah should stay with them because she needs Carlos." Nick finally spoke, shattering what everyone was contemplating. "Alvin, Luke and I need to be the ones to go in."

Once again, the group was thrust into silence. There was no debate because there didn't need to be — everyone knew they were right. Carlos, Rebecca, and Sarah were too weak or important to bear going in. The task of the search and rescue needed to be handed to those remaining: Alvin, Luke, and Nick.

"Let's keep going." Carlos said with a nod, turning to continue their trek, choosing to not comment. Their contemplation would come as they walked — silent and to themselves. After all, their shared silence, they all knew, was an agreement.

Within the hour, the group stumbled upon the man-made path, looming ever closer to Carver's hideout. It wasn't far down the path did the humming of machinery and the chatter of life strike fear into chest's.

They had arrived.

"We need to split." Nick said, adjusting his knife at his side.

"And form a plan." Luke continued, silently impressed with his friend's enthusiasm.
