Title: The Blessing
Characters: Gabe, David, Javier, Kate
Summary: After David discovers Clem and Gabe's growing relationship, he tries everything in his power to keep the duo apart believing that they "aren't ready". After Javi and Kate have a talk with him, Gabe and David have a heart to heart about what it means to be in love, and he gives the couple his blessing.
Author's Note: Gabe and David's banter at the end is like me and my dad lmao

"Dad, what were you doing?" Gabe's booming anger and the slamming of the front door was the first bit of commotion to capture Kate and Javier's interest. It was quickly followed by the loud slamming of boots and the scoffing of a scratchy throat.

"Gabe, I'm doing what's best for you."

"You don't know what's best for me!" The teen yelled back, throwing his arms down at his sides. "You haven't been around for years and you think doing that is good for me?"

David lifted a hand to his eyes, rubbing them in anguish. One hand stuck to his hip. The two had burst into the Garcia's small temporary home — yells and all — disrupting the tranquility Kate and Javi built there.

"Gabe, calm down." David said.

"No." He spat, cold and bitterly. "I'm not going to because you're the one out of line."

David took a deep breath, allowing his chest to gradually rise and crash. "You're overreacting."

"What?!"

"Uh," Javi began, freezing the Go-Fish game he had with Kate. His hands didn't move from where they were clutching his cards but his gaze, much like that of the woman across from him, rested on them. "Can someone tell us what's going on here?"

Gabe rolled his eyes, as if the mere thought of pausing his screaming was a stressor. "Clementine and I were having a nice time outside, and he shooed her away and dragged me inside by my collar."

"What?" Kate scoffed, throwing herself to her feet. Her jaw dropped with her gaze slashing to her 'husband' of sorts. "David, are you serious?"

"I did it for a reason." He claimed, holding a hand out, as if the gesture would calm her rage. He set out another in Gabe's direction, hoping to do the same for him. "It was for the best."

"It was embarrassing," Gabe responded, arms crossed, leering at his father. "We were having a great time, and you ruined it." Without another word to the male, refusing to utter anything to the two behind him, the teen darted up the stairwell to their single bedroom and slammed the door.

After the walls stopped ringing, Kate crossed her arms. "David," she began daringly.

David rolled his eyes, not wanting her to start. "He's not ready for that, Kate. We both know that." Glancing at Javi over her shoulder, now also standing, David cleared his throat. "We all know that."

While Kate merely narrowed her gaze, Javi stepped past her. "Actually David, I don't know that." David raised an eyebrow. When he opened his mouth to speak, Javi cut him off. "I don't see why Gabe having feelings for someone is a bad thing."

"He's not ready." David repeated, visibility irritated at his need for repetition. "He's not ready to handle that. Not now. Not in this world."

"David, this is how our world is going to stay." Javi retorted, arms crossing. "This is how the world is going to be from now on. Are you saying he can never have feelings for anyone?"
