They had only found her weeks ago, and yet so quickly everything had taken a turn for the worst.

In the ruins of Richmond, during the beginnings of rebuilding the city, a girl, someone Clementine knew, rose from the ashes and emerged from the scattered families.

In fact, she was more than just a someone. To Clementine, she was her everything.

Rachel, her girlfriend from ages before, now instantly swept back into her life. But with her came a storm.

It started with subtle things the Garcia family noticed were rapidly growing. First was the way Clementine had grown more groggy most mornings. At first, none of them could tell why. It wasn't until Gabe discovered Clementine and Rachel chugging back a bottle of wine one night did he fully understand.

Every morning she was hungover. Every night was a night they drank.

"Dude, I can't believe how many bottles of these there are in the back." He could faintly overhear on his night of discovery, listening to Rachel pass Clementine a bottle for her own swig of the liquid.

Gabe, hiding meekly around a corner of the warehouses they lingered behind, listened intently to their conversation, the anxiety in his gut swelling at the change he was gradually watching his friend take.

"Totally," Clementine's claim was followed by silence, then a faint sound of desperate gulping and a sputtering cough.

Rachel snorted. "Oh come on, it ain't that bad. You gotta toughen up."

Clementine cleared her throat before her croaky voice sounded through the thick, night air. "I'm trying man, chill."

God, she was even talking differently now. What had Rachel done to her?

Gabe, at first, kept this knowledge to himself. He had hoped he would be able to deal with the situation on his own, maybe get Clementine by herself and speak to her privately about his concerns.

That was, until a few days later.

"What is that?" David's voice filling the morning air tainted the freshness they usually felt first thing in the day. Instead, it left the air feeling tense. Dirtied.

Gabe, emerging from the empty tent his family stayed in, emerged to see Javi and David focusing on something, rather someone, both with their arms crossed firmly. Although he could only see the shoes of the figure they were staring at, he already knew who they were speaking to.

A female scoff entered the air. "I've always had this." Clementine claimed. "Besides, it's not even a big deal, God."

"It is a big deal." David spat back, tension lacing every word. "It could've gotten infected."

"But it's not!"

"But it could have."

Starting forwards, hoping to see what exactly the centre of attention was, Gabe spotted Clementine, arms crossed as she stood before the two older men. The only difference?

A fresh piercing was now resting on her septum. One that, despite her claims, was brand new from the night before.

Gabe's eyes widened in shock. "Woah."
