"Where's Clem?!" Gabe's desperate yelling, just barely sounding over the raging storm, caught Javier's attention instantly.

He whipped around, staring his nephew down in horror. "She's not inside?" He yelled back.

"No!" Gabe cried, fumbling down the steps leading into Richmond's kitchen. The rain and wind had picked up immensely in the past hour, and the level of the storm was only expected to rise as more time passed.

Javier's thin windbreaker whipped around him as he scanned the scene, searching for any sight of the girl in their small field of vision. The rain had made it almost impossible to see anything more than a few yards in front of them, and the task itself was causing him great deals of stress.

"What do we do?!" Gabe screamed, heaving himself closer toward his uncle.

Just as Javi's lips parted to offer a solution, and to guide him back inside the building to be with Kate, yelling sounded from behind him.

"Do we have everyone?" David hollered, darting up beside the two. He gawked at his son standing in the storm, already reaching to usher him inside. "What are you doing out here?"

"Clementine's missing," Javi gasped, his throat going hoarse from their yelling. "I need to go find her."

David blinked in shock, ridding his eyelashes of the rain clinging to them. "No, get inside. I'm in charge of security, and that's a threat I should be dealing with."

"You can't go alone!" Gabe wailed.

"I can and I will." David forced, giving his child a stern, albeit tender, stare. Both of them knew despite their overwhelming stress, they were acting out in care. "I'll be back as soon as I can. Please," he turned back to his brother, hesitation lingering behind his lids. "You've kept him safe for this long. Please keep him safe for a while longer."

Javi, determination swimming in his gaze, nodded. "Always."

With a pat on Javi's shoulder and a pat on Gabe's head, David darted off in the other direction — deeper into the storm — to find the very girl who had vanished.

He knew she couldn't have gone far, and she had to be within Richmond's borders. When notice of a storm emerged, no one dared leave the gates, not even Clementine. Hopefully she had ducked in somewhere to find cover and wasn't sitting out in the storm, unable to find shelter.

A snap of lightning flickered through the sky followed by a slam of thunder. The sound, not surprising to David, brought him to pause. It wasn't safe for him to be roaming the streets as well. While he needed to ensure Clementine's safety, his own was mandatory as well. He had a job to uphold in Richmond, and throwing himself carelessly into harm's way wasn't going to help anyone.

But if he returned to the kitchen without Clementine, and Gabe and Javi caught wind that he abandoned his search for her...

Another slam of thunder sounded through the sky, it's paired set of lighting sparking up the dimly lit city.

He swallowed his thoughts and trekked on. He couldn't rest until he was sure she was safe, no matter what the risk. That was his job. Besides, Javier had risked his life countless times to ensure his son survived as long as he had. He owed Javi this in return.
