"This is it." Clementine grumbled, adjusting her hold on her weapon. She kept a side eye on the stranger at her side, the one of whom she was bringing to her temporary safe-haven.

"What is this place?" Javier breathed, brows pressed in amazed intrigue. For ages, he and his family had been on the road, their home the run-down van they had found refuge in, so seeing a location as well-kept as this and secure as this was stunning, almost surreal.

Clementine cast a side-eye to the male, giving him a once over to check if his question was asked out of disgust or interest. Her weapon lowered to point at the ground, believing that he wouldn't pull a move so close to the entrance. "Prescott." She claimed passively, her eyes shifting to watch the front gates slowly squeal open. "And, for now, it's your home."

He blinked in surprise watching the magnitude it took to pull the gates open. At the very least, he knew they would be safe. He had never seen security to this standard before. "Has it always been like his?"

"Since the outbreak, yes." Clementine continued, digging the barrel of her gun into the dirt, watching the pattern of circles it made. "Before it was a military base."

"Damn. That explains a lot."

Clementine chose not to comment on the shock, instead propping her weapon against her shoulder and starting forwards, slipping herself through the opening and onto the concrete walkway of the temporary town.

It had been a while since the last time she had set foot in Prescott — after all, she had no long-term connections there of which made her feel welcome — so she often felt as if she was better on her own. Seeing at how long she had lived, and seeing at how she hadn't roped anyone else into her mess, she would assume her thoughts were correct.

However, there was a bittersweet sensation that flooded her upon first entering. Many, if not most of the faces before her she couldn't recognize. So much time had passed that people had come and gone, and the population of the little city had lifted far more than she recalled.

Still, the girl was determined to not look like a fool to the male at her side. Standing straighter, casting a side-eye in his direction, she continued. "Come on. Let's go find Tripp."

"Tripp?" Javi trotted after the girl despite his eyes drinking in their surroundings.

Clem withheld a sigh, instead allowing it to build and release silently within her chest. "He's like the head of security. You need to get cleared by him to stay here." Out of the corner of her eye she could see his shoulders tense. Clearly, the notion of needing to pass a test of sorts didn't sit well with him.

The two trekked down the runway towards a shed at the back, Clementine making eyes at everyone they passed. Not one of these people, not one of them that they passed, did she recognize. How long had she been gone? How heavy was their turnover?

Clementine stifled a sigh as she knocked at the shed's door. She lowered her weapon back to the ground, not wanting to come across as threatening. While Tripp knew her — liking her was debatable — she didn't want to cause more trouble than needed, especially since she was only there to drop off Javi for clearance. Then, he could get back to finding her a vehicle: their deal.
