"They've been gone for more than an hour without a word," David began, his hands planted on his hips. "They would've said something if we didn't have a reason to worry."

"There isn't reason to worry."

"There is."

Javier rolled his eyes at his brother's refusal to listen. He should've suspected it. "David, where would they go? The gates leading out of Richmond are supervised." He raised an eyebrow, waiting for his brother to answer. When he didn't, Javi continued. "They're somewhere in here. We just need to find them."

Without a moment to lose, not letting Javier assist in hatching a real plan, David burst out the door of the Garcia house and started away. As Javi darted after him, he couldn't help but roll his eyes.

Ever since David and Gabe reunited, David had been more protective over him than ever — even more so when he learned about Mariana's fate. It made sense, and Javier would never blame his brother for acting such a way, but on some days — like today — it became overbearing.

"David," Javi called, trotting up beside his brother. He was walking with such force and determination that Javier almost needed to stay in a perpetual jog to keep up with him. "They're fine, okay? They're probably just goofing off like they always are."

"They never do it like this, Javi." David spat back. "Never without a warning. Never without telling someone where they are."

Javier hesitated, biting his tongue. He hated acknowledging that David may have a point, but in this case maybe he did. Maybe. David was a pro overprotective father these days, and Javi didn't want to get sucked into his worrying. He was probably overreacting.

But, on the off chance he wasn't...

"Let's go find them." Javi stated, his tone serious but touched with a gentle undertone. He was still trying to ensure David of his calm presence. Sometimes, when someone was all panic, forcing calmness was the best way to maintain peace. Sometimes.

The two's forceful walking slammed to a halt as they hit Richmond's park — the spot the two hung around most frequently. Their shoulders heaved seeing that the park was completely empty — not a trace of the two they were looking for.

"Shit," David groaned, arms slapping in anxious defeat at his sides. He turned to his brother, desperate and riddled in panic. "Where else do they like to go? Where else should we check?"

Javier hesitated, taking a deep breath to exude his calmness before beginning. "Let's check the kitchen. Maybe they offered to help clean up after dinner."

David's shoulders lessened their tension. After an initial pause, he gave a hesitant nod. His body language screamed that he was wary at Javier's calmness. Regardless, he followed along.

The two started for the kitchen at a slower pace than the speed they had darted to the park using. Partially because Javier was leading, partially because they were worn out from their sprint. Regardless, Javi tried to keep his walking relatively speedy, both for his sake and David's. After all, he wouldn't verbally admit it, but David's fear was starting to rub off on him. Where on earth were they?

Javier was the first to enter the kitchen, propping the door open with his foot for David to enter behind him. Upon their first sweep of the room, neither of them could find a trace of the two. They couldn't find a trace of anyone. After dinner was finished and the cleaning was handled, the dining hall was pretty much abandoned.
