Clementine and Luke
This has been requested by too many people to keep track of.
Upon saving Clementine from getting shot by a bullet, Luke takes it instead.
Clementine sighed as she trudged along beside Nick, whom was lugging at the back of the group.
“Nick, we’re falling behind.” The girl stated plainly, glancing up to at her companion. She liked Nick, and she pitied him after what happened to Pete. So instead of taking up Luke’s offer and walking at the front of the group with him, she chose to hang at the back with Nick. However, telling Luke this caused a disappointed and frustrated expression to graze his normally cheerful face.
“Sorry kid.” Nick grumbled, drinking a little more of the alcohol he had snatched from the shed. Clementine’s golden eyes glared at his drinking habits and then focused yet again on the road ahead of him.
“Hey, Clem.” Luke called. “You sure you don’t want to walk up here?”
Clementine glanced at the drunkard before turning back to Luke with a hesitant gaze. “I think I’m ok.” She might as well watch over him and make sure he didn’t do anything stupid. Luke frowned again and turned his eyes back to where he was walking.
It had only been a few moments before distant footsteps crunched behind the group.
Luke stopped and held up his hand, forcing the group to fault. “Everyone, shh!”
The group was still, and Clementine internally debated running up to be with Luke.
More footsteps.
“Carver…” Luke growled under his breath, pushing the others forwards. He frowned upon seeing Clementine firm beside Nick and gently butt in between them to push Clem forwards. “Move fast, ok?” He asked softly, causing Clem and Nick to both nod.
Suddenly, the calm footsteps changed to running, then sprinting.
Luke gently slapped Clem’s back upon hearing a distant gunshot. “Run!” He cried, patting her back and sprinting forwards, but being careful not to get too far ahead of her. Nick on the other hand, bolted as fast as he could. Luke smirked, it was a classic Nick move. He was just glad he could be there for Clem.
However, Clementine did lag behind slightly, gripping onto her backpack as she ran. She could hear Carver’s group fast approaching, causing her heart rate to spike as she ran.
Hearing a closer gun shot, she ducked her head and bolted forwards even more, her group now vanished from her sight.
Luke had managed to duck into some bushes with the others, but his eyes widened in fear when he saw Carver line up his shot with Clementine’s body.
“That bastard!” He grumbled, propelling himself from the greenery. “Clem!” Luke screamed, jumping towards her. Another gunshot pierced the air as Luke wrapped her arms around the young girl, pushing her out of the small dirt pathway. Luke gave a loud cry of pain as a bullet hit his leg, before tugging Clem into his chest and tumbling down a small hill with her.
Finally thudding to the bottom, Luke groaned and whined in pain. They say in silence for a few moments, Clem shaking under his arms.
“Luke?” Clem asked nervously, almost like her younger self would ask if Lee was ok.
“Ugh, yeah kiddo?” He groaned. Clem glanced up as best as she could at him. He risked his life for her, just to use himself as a human shield and save her from harm. “Why did you do that?” She asked, gripping tightly onto his shirt as she had before. When he caught her, she never let go.
“I couldn’t let you take a bullet, now could I?” He chucked despite his pain. “I’d rather have it be me than you.”
Luke carefully pulled away after he was content Carver had left, and pushed himself up.
“Luke!” Clementine gasped, glancing at his wound. She threw off her backpack and rummaged for the first aid supplies she kept inside.
Clementine carefully rolled up his pant-leg and poured some disinfectant on the gaping hold. Luke gasped and gripped the ground in pain, causing Clem to grab his hand. “Just squeeze if it hurts.” She said quietly.
Luke laughed. “I wouldn’t want to hurt you.”
“You won’t.” She said, carefully dabbing it away with her free hand and grabbing the cloth. Luke winced as she began to wrap, every small movement feeling like stab in his calf. He could feel his hand grow cold as she removed it to wrap his wound; it was an unpleasant, empty-like feeling. “That should be good enough until we find the others.” Clem whispered, putting her stuff away and standing. Luke smiled at her and pushed himself up. Noticing his wobbling, she took his hand again for balance. The warm, fuzzy feeling retuned, and expanded to his heart upon hearing her next words. “Thank you for doing that.” She said smiling up at him, referring to his heroic efforts.
“Anytime, Clem.” He chuckled. “I’ll do anything to keep you safe.”
With that they walked hand-in-hand back to their group, refusing to let each other go.
