That night after I got home, I kept thinking of what had happened. The one thing that kept bothering my mind was why he had left like that.

I slept the night away, but my mind stayed stuck on it.

In the morning, I got ready for work, unsure of what today would face. When I got to the office, I walked quickly up to my room and went to pull down the shades on my window so I wouldn't have to see him since I was too scared to face him, when I noticed: his chair was empty. The room was neat and organized, as if no one had touched it.

There was a knock at my door, and it was his secretary. She came in and gave me some files, looking a little tired.

"Are you okay," I asked as I sat down in my seat.

"Huh? Oh, no it's okay ma'am, I'm completely fine."

I gave her a questionable look.

"It's just that, ma'am, I have to take care of everything today."

"Why? Where's sir?"

"You don't know? You must have been with your friend when I told everybody else - he's not coming."

I stood up out of my seat.

"What? What do you mean he's not coming?"

"He said something about how he was taking a break and wouldn't be in for a while."

It took me a moment to let it sync through.

"Oh... alright no problem."

I sat back down as she turned to leave.

"Oh yeah, by the way ma'am?"

I turned to face her.

"Sir said to leave you in charge of things: meetings, business transactions, all of that."

She walked out and left.

Are you kidding me? I didn't know what to think! But one thing for sure was that I wouldn't be seeing Arnavji anytime soon, thank goodness! Also leaving me in charge? I don't know how to run a business!

I grabbed my phone and told Payal everything as I worked.

"Wait you're in charge? That's so cool!"

"How is that cool?"

"He's getting his future wife prepared to run the business," and I knew she was smirking.

"I'm not his future wife," I said, my teeth gritted.

"Sorry, the joke went kind of too far this time."

Hmm.... "It's okay," I eventually sighed.

"So, what are you going to do now?"

"I'm just... going to do what my boss ordered me to do."

Not like I have any other options.

For the next few days I worked on both mine and his work. I attended the meetings and was sitting in his seat. Sitting there felt so awkward! The fact that he sat there went through my mind the entire time!

A few days turned into a week, and a week turned into a few weeks.

It was my day off and Payal and I went out, going around the city when something caught my attention. I looked back and I stared.

"Payal!"

She walked ahead not realizing that I was rooted to the ground. She came running back and turned to see what I was looking at.
