The next day I woke up as a whole other person. I decided I would go back to work today so I called Rita. It turned out that everything was okay, so I got ready, went downstairs, had breakfast, and left for work.

When I arrived at work, I felt good. I went up to my room and Rita came in handing me files. She left and I was about to start on my work when I heard everyone murmur and say good morning sir. I looked out and saw Arnavji come up the stairs and sit in his chair. He noticed me but he didn't bother to look at me and began his work.

I decided that I would talk to him after everyone had left for the day, but I didn't get the chance. A few hours later he left after receiving a phone call.

I watched him as he left. "Oh well... there's always next time," I said aloud to myself.

*~*

The next day I waited for him to come in, but there was no sign of him at all. The next few days he didn't even come into the office. I was curious and couldn't help but to think that he didn't come in because of me.

It had been over a week that he didn't come to work, until one Friday he came in. He was completely normal, and he simply went up to his room and worked.

That's weird.

I looked him up and down - he seemed completely normal, the same obnoxious look on his face. Deciding not to think any further on the matter, I turned my attention back on work.

After everyone left I went to his room. I had to give him the monthly statement and to be honest, I didn't want to go up to him. Like I had a choice now - Rita had already left for the day

I knocked and went in, letting him realize my presence. He looked up from his work, looked at me, and went back to his work.

I stared him wide eyed and scowled. Oof, his attitude!

I fixed my posture and went over to his desk.

"Here's the monthly statement sir," I said.

He took the file. "Good. I didn't think I'd get this month's, since after all, you weren't here. I assumed that you wouldn't be here because of your wedding," he said, not once looking at me as he spoke.

My eyebrow arched up on its own. Guess he doesn't know.

"Well actually sir, I received the statement only a few days ago. You know, when you weren't here."

I felt the urge to smack him and kiss him at the same time.

"Is that so," he said, without looking up.

Look at me, dammit! One look and you'd know the truth! "Yes, so if you were here earlier, then this file would've been in your hands earlier. Of course, I got worried that it would've come in during my absence, but that's not the case."

He nodded and continued to look at the file. I glared at him. Some attitude he has! I shook my head clear and looked away from him.

"In fact, I continued, "I had a feeling that while my wedding was going on, it would've come in."

He turned to look at me, but I turned away. Oh, so now you want to look at me! Too bad! You will not get the chance to see that my parting isn't filled, you egoistic asshole! Screw you Arnav – and yes, no longer will I address you as Arnavji, a jerk doesn't deserve it!

He looked back down at the file. "Is that so," he simply said.

"Yes. Thank goodness I wasn't delayed from work. I came back to work immediately the day after the wedding. I didn't tell anyone of my absence before and I knew that it wasn't a good thing, so I came back to work," I said smugly.

He handed me the file and I glared at him, his eyes now focused on the other paperwork on his desk.

Seriously? He's impossible!

I turned on my heels and was about to walk out of his office when he spoke.

"I hope you live a happy life with your husband, Khushi," he grumbled.

My eyes widened. I couldn't believe he just said that!

I turned my face to the side. "I never said I got married."

From the corner of my eye, I saw him look up, surprised. "What?"

"My wedding was broken off at the last minute," I said confidently, and I turned to let him see my face.

I stood there a few seconds, letting him observe me - no sindoor, no mangalsutra ,and that I was content. He looked at me and I looked into his eyes, my expression showing him that the things he said to me had hurt me, and I walked out of his room.

I went up to mine, put the files away, got my things and walked out of the office, him standing and watching me as I left.

I got outside and called Payal. "I need a distraction. Now."
